Hi guys, I am getting a Dw PDP Cx kit for christmas and I would like to know if they are good drums. I know they are all maple shells and from what I'm told they sound great but I would like to know if any of ya'll have used them or heard them. Your input is much appreciated and encouraged.
Thanks,
Jimmy

alot of people have to do that damo :( alot of stores dont have kits setup, let alone having people play them.

some people don't have that luxury....in fact, I didn't play mine until I brought it home (though I could have, as it was set up) but I did try out my cymbals.

Yeah they're very good kits for the price.

They are quite good, but as said above, stock heads aren't too groovy. Great drums though, you'll love them.

I have to drive around 70 miles just to see even a drumset set up in a music store.

Most music shops in NZ wont let you test out kits as the display kit is the one that you buy :(...I did that for my rockstar custom..didnt touch the thing for 3 days afetr buying it...Nearly had withdrawal symptoms!
However i didnt have to try it out :P Sounded bloody good anway!

Awesome kits. I was gonna get a Cx snare for 20 bucks on ebay but I didn't wake up in time.

my friend has that set. Great set, almost perfect edges, but really good for what oyu would expect from a kit of that range. Just so you know i completely resetup my friends set. They sound great with a new set of emperors, the hardware is not the best but it gets the job now. The tuning is the most frustrating thing. The suspension mounts hang on the lugs and they also put pressure on the lug nuts so tuning can be a pain. I could never get the snare to sound right but i heard make the top tight and the bottom loose.
Also check out the sonor force series if you can.
Are you guys trying to teach me something about being isolated?
I live in Perth... :)
It depends how serious you are I guess. 70 miles is not a long way to drive when youre spending over a thousand bucks. Plus you could get the store manager to cover your fuel costs otherwise youll go 70 miles to the next store... :)

$1000 divided by $50= 5%..
i'd say putting out 5% of the price to try-before-you-buy is a good investment friends. [the $50 is the cost of petrol].

PDP makes a fine kit.
They'll be wonderful.

i've got a set of them. I agree about the stock heads. I replaced mine with evans heads, and a rather strange weathered dry snare head. It has holes all around the perimeter to kill off extra harmonics. However i just got a new black panther snare, so i don't get around to playing the pacific snare anymore.

^Nice. And nice Username. Underoath pwns.
Btw, to the threadstarter I think I might actually be getting a PDP CX too. I really like it and my band will be gigging, (we're going on tour omgwtf), and they are great drums for the price. I'll be buying an extra mounted floor tom though.

Not true. I was on the dw site the other day and found out you could order birch wood drums from the dealers. I would rather have birch. While maple is great and sounds so good, birch is a more flexible wood and sounds great. If you have ever heard a birch snare, a maple comes up lesser than it. I can't put my finger on what it is about birch but the seem to hold more sound. Just my honest oppinion.
But yes, Dw is so good, you can't go wrong when ordering from them.
