Hi, my eight year old son wants a bass guitar for christmas and i know nothing on the subject. I was wondering what would be a good size amp for him while learning? and is there a difference between a bass guitar amp and any other guitar amp?? sorry for the stupid question! thanks again

guitar amps cant handle the bass i think you should get him maybe a squire beginner pack or ibanez or peavy they all make great beginner stuff the kits will come with a bass, strap, cable, maybe picks and a 10 to 20 watt practice amp just stay away from rogue they are crap the low price seems nice and they look like the have good features but they they suck.

I'd say if he's eight, he has plenty of time to start to enjoy playing, and doesn't need the greatest gear to start. Any Squier or Ibanez start pack would probably be perfect. He won't need an amp bigger than maybe 20 watts.

I got a Rogue beginner package. Although it was the cheapest, I would not recommend it. A month later, when I started lessons, it had large amount of fret buzz. It was bad enough that the warranty covered it. I returned the bass, but kept the 20W Drive amp it came with. I rented a Squier P Bass for 2 months, which was not my favorite, either. I then purchased an Ibanez GSR200, which I am very satisfied with.

i don't think it is any good if you buy him the cheapest amp. because if u have to play on an amp sounding like a headphone lying on the floor, that isnt really motivating.

Since he's eight, you might want to get the Drive starter pack because the bass has a shorter scale and it will be easier for him to play.
