Well... before i go off to band practice I'd like to get some opinions.
I'm gunna make myself a CD of some Jaco stuff, but im new to Jaco's material, I mean I know a couple of his more known songs and im getting more and more into him. But i was wondering what are some of Jaco's best songs that i should include on this CD. I'd prefer some nice difficult stuff, but also i want some nicely concstucted songs... to learn one day or just for a listen evey now and them.

Portrait of Tracy, Continuum, and Opus Pocus are personal favourites. I don't think PLAYING Continuum would be difficult, just memorizing it would. I can play the parts if I'm reading the music.
Chromatic Fantasy is considered one of the more difficult pieces. I don't like listening to it much, but some do. Still, it'll show off some technical ability. And Teen Town is always a hit if you're getting into Weather Report.

The Chicken is a pretty good one, he covered it but he does do a good recreation.

Port of Entry, Kuru/Speak Like A Child, Amelia, 3 Views of a Secret, Amerika. You should pick up Portrait of Jaco and Punk Jazz, both amazing albums.

The chicken features one of the best grooves ever. I love to play the main riff fingerstyle and do some improvising:)

my old physics teacher was taunting me today, telling me about how he saw Weather Report live and got Jaco to sign a record or something.
But as for tracks, Come On, Come over ;)

Its not hard, but Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (weather report) is one of my favorite.
The song is open to improvisation, so you can make it as hard as you want!

for some reason, I have always loved Come On, Come Over as my favorite Jaco song, but it is far from one of the hardest.

Why hasn't anyone said blackbird? it's got such a nice uplifiting bassline, real easy on the ears...it would've been my first choice for such a cd.
