Okay, so about a year ago, my brother got this crappy "First Act" drumset. He decided later that he didn't want to play drums, so he gave the set to me. Of course, it sounded something nasty, but I still played it.

I don't play drums professionally, nor do I really have the desire to. I play guitar. I enjoy playing drums a great deal, though. Before my brother received the set, I learned how to play on my band's drummer's set, and got pretty damn good in comparison to what I expected.

Anyway, my drummer told me that if I put some new heads on it, the drums would definately sound better. The heads currently on it are made of plastic, which never seems to be good for the things I want it to work for. So, taking his advice, I am looking for drum heads.

So the question is, does anyone have any drum heads that they could recommend to me? Keep in mind that I do not play it as a primary instrument, so I cannot afford to spend hella dollars on it. I have guitar stuff to spend money on.

Thank you.

Just put some remo coated ambassadors on the tops and clear ambassadors bottom. that should do you fine.

Brands such as Remo and Evans are usually the best.

Yeah.
Crappy kit = Pinstripes.

Toms - Pinstripes.
Snare - Powerstroke 4
Bass Drum - 2 EMADS? ;)
Jk. But try an Emad.

And get some inner muffling too.

Edit^ In all the drums.

 this has nothing to do with the fact its a crappy drumkit or not

I HAVE PINSTRIPES and they sound perfectly good , you just work on them to get a good sound /ùfd^ù%^fd:angry: fdf:angry: fd¨ùµ^ù

Aquarian Owns.

Get some Aquarian Jack De Johnnete signaturea for the top part(called a batter) And some Classic Clears for the bottom part(called a reso).

mmm I'd say Pinstripes OR some aquarian :D

Go away turd. I bet you're just saying that because DBJ said they're less resonant than Remos. Aqaurian makes great stuff

Well...if you like the sound you get with pinstripes fine :p I just think it's a bit of a shame to put pinstripes on a more expensive kit which has better shells etc.

Don't worry, I use pinstripes too, but only because I have a pearl export, and I don't plan to change the heads till I got a new kit. (And then it'll be Aquarians for sure :))

whoever said "crappy drumset so you should get pinstripes" is retarded. you can get any kit sounding good with decent heads and time/tuning. since you dont want to spend a lot on heads, remo coated ambassador over remo clear ambassador would be ideal. just about as cheap as its gonna get.

Indeed.

That will make any drum sound great.

^^ yea i know , well i've heard better indeed i don't really like like my pinstripes but since they are the only heads i knew ( when i replaced my heads for the first time) who could resist my heavy hitting i bought them.

Exactly. I spend all of my money on guitars. I just play drums on my free time.

I measured the size of each of my drums, and these are the sizes:

Snare:14.5"
High Tom:12.5"
Medium Tom:13.5"
Floor Tom:16.5"

Am I doing something wrong? Because I checked American Musical Supply, and all of the sizes are on the inch, and there are no half-inch sizes. What should I do?

Don't worry , drumkits have standard sizes dude , you wont find a 14.65 snare head.

Well, I've heard the displeasingness of FirstAct kits. They don't sound too good.

I suggest getting Aquarian Performance 2's for the batter heads, Aquarian Classic Clears for the resos, Coated Response 2 for the Snare batter, Classic Clear for Snare reso, and Aquarian Superkick 2 for bass.

If you want to change your reso for your bass too, I suggest getting a Aquarian Regulator w/ no port hole.

PS: If you didn't know, Batter = the top heads and Reso = bottom heads. :D
