John is really a big dimension to the band. I hope there's at least one upbeat song like "Can't stop" on this album and not mostly sad songs like on 'by the way'. A new BSSM would be great, with a touch of californication. :)

Let's hope they bring back the funkyness - "By The Way" and "Californication" were fine, but I want to see a return to old school Chilis. My friend has actually heard one of the new tracks, and he says it's very BSSM-esque.

it better be better than By The Way, it was easily their worst album

Yus, like Phalanx said.

They've started to suck a little. Fortune Faded was a terrible song. Like someone said, I hope they return to their original direction

after john went into his drug binge, they didnt capture the essence of red hot chili peppers on their cd's. actually, it started on the dave navarro album, then more so on the following ones. i hope this ones better

Actually now that i think abouit it, Im a Frusciante Fan, thats the only reaosn i enjoy the chillis...

You mean John's basslines on his solo albums, or did he write some for the Chili Peppers as well? I'm curious.

Solo Albums.

Which is Funny because some of Johns Lines are played by Flea... but enjoy them more on Johns Albums.

Im really a fan of his guitar work, he has to be one of my favorites.

Yeah, same here. I think Frusciante is an amazingly expressive guitarist.

That said, I love RHCP as a whole. I don't really like Flea's slap lines that much, but I think the man has a killer soulful groove with he plays fingerstyle. I really liked By The Way and Californication--hell, I even liked most parts of One Hot Minute--and I think this album will be excellent.

They played some newish tracks waaaay back in like July when they played Hyde Park.

I have a friend who saw them then, and theres also one of the new tracks on the Live in Hyde Park album.

I think its funny how often that a band will have a new CD coming out and they'll say things like "We think its the best thing we've ever written." I'm curious if they really believe that, or they're just trying to increase the hype.

PaulR

Imagine if they started saying, "Our new albums fairly mediocre really. We could have done a lot better."

^^^Don't get me wrong, I can understand the logic behind those types of statements, but the fact of the matter is that most bands breakout album is never matched.... keeping in mind that opinions vary.....

Yeah, I can see what you mean totally. But would a band really release something they don't feel is as good as what they've done before?

I miss hilel Slovack (Sp?) that dude was a funky punk. Flea with jack Irons they never bettered. I love chad smith. And I love flea and anthony but i think Hillel and Navaro both kicked the crap out of Frusciante - he's a better guitarist by far, but not half as funky as either

Munky_Jam
11-28-2005, 03:20 PM
btw i find when they say its our most finely crafted/we've improved as craftsmen. that means it'll be less fun and funky.

**** whats the point of a chilli's album if its not fun

If they were just serving out a contract they might... Probably doesn't apply here though.

I'm very excited about a new Chilis album though. I'd love a cross between BSSM and californication, but I really don't understand in what sense BTW was a bad album... I really enjoy it.

I hope it's not like By The Way. It's wasn't necessarily a bad album, but I don't like the direction it was heading... and some of the song were kind of crappy.

A lot bands have a worst album that doesn't suck, so, no, it's not saying much.

They played 3 "new" songs on that Las Vegas concert in August I think. They only said 1 of them would be on their new album. I have all 3, one of the songs is very BTW and BSSM at the same time... The other 2 sound like they could have been on Californication. PM me if you want them.

I like and own all their albums. Their first one is my least favorite, followed by Freaky Styley. Those are funky, upbeat albums but just seem to be lacking something. I like all the rest the same just about, their favoritism (if thats a word) changes just about every other week. I really like One Hot Minute, though many people dont, it has a little different feel, but still great. I hope that they do keep evolving their sound but still have some of the retro stuff in. John Frusciante is my favorite artist ever, I think his solo work is pure magic, and his work with RHCP is amazing too. So I hope they keep on letting him have a big say as in By the Way. It would be great to have alot Fleas input too. It would be cool to have the new album have a funk, punk groove with a classic rock/ post punk vibe too.

everyone has gotta get their hands on ramparts by john frusciante, its pretty genious for a chill out grooves instrumental... i love it cause it sounds like the peppers..

anywayz i hope the chili peppers album is like blood sugar sex magic but with the same recording quality as californication, j fru reckons its a bit more hard, and if its a double cd like i heard somewhere that will be pure sweetness, think of the world tour if its as good as bssm... high hopes

What's wrong with Mother's Milk? I'm quite a fan of that album, apart from the 12 minute instrumental, which was awful! But the rest was quite good, I thought.

keep an eye on frusciante's reactions when the album hits the shelves. After BTW came out he said (on Belgian radio) that he was quite disappointed in the album, because while working on it it felt like it was the best thing they ever made, but it got screwed up in the process of mixing/producing.

Maybe we'll see more of their funkier side this time....

I like it too, but I like One Hot Minute more... And there are definitely some duff songs on mother's milk. Magic Johnson? Anyone? :p

I don't think theres any song of Chilis i dont like. I can't think of a least favourite.

I love all of their styles, their older funkier work is amazing but then i do love their slower, more depressive songs on BTW. Also, One Hot Minute, an amazing album, its so energtic, its great.

They said how this will be more like their older albums going back to their roots. I don't mind what it is, but a mix over the whole album would be cool.

Off Hyde Park what songs did they say would be on it? If Leverage of Space is on it that would be awsome, Rolling Sly Stone is also great but i don't think these 2 were gonna be on it.
