I don't know if you guys have seen this, but a member of TalkBass is getting a Jerzy Drodz Legend 10 string. Here's the link, pictures within (they start on page 2).

I think it's quite sexy, shame it's a lefty though. :p

Discuss :D

I'v found talkbass is full of HARDCORE bassists, whereas mx has more casual players..

The 'Basic' is gorgeous.

But yeah, the rest look overdone. I'm not a fan of natural spalted finishes.

No, just heavily in debt...

I'd say the people on TB have jobs, some more well paying than others.

Also, guy getting the 10 string JD made is named Yves and he is a professional musician. He does a lot of subcontra stuff.

Bear in mind John Turner and Jean Baudin are in that thread, and Jerzy himself as well. There are some big hitters over on TB.

People come here to learn to play, and go there be gloaty in their brilliance.

Most are adults too which means they can blow huge amounts of money on what they want.

Telling comment:

The Legend X will be finished next week, but as I will be in Estonia with Michael Manring, I will be able to return in Barcelona only around december 15.

TB is cool because they have so much better gear than us, but this forum has infinitely better conversation.

I'm an adult, and all of my spare change is in a christmas fund. After that, birthday funds, then lawn/house care needs, then Christmas 06.
I still play the same basses and amps that I have had since I was a teenager, my newest bass is a 1997. I found your statement hilarious because I can recall thinking the same thing.

Oh i see, well if nothing else, the people on talkbass have some money to atleast be tempted, being a teenager means you don't have the choice so you arnet tempted, i suppose thats a good thing in the long run.

TB has alot of egos,

now before you jump down my throat, they have the Bassist Version of Big Egos, which is really not that bad. But The Peoples Egos hear piss me the **** off, and i can barely deal with it.

Plus, I Like how casual the talk is, and the broader range of players we have heard, genres discussed etc.

Its not that their particularly rich, or particularly hardcore. as a member of both sites, I find that talk bass general is made up of older players, people who have jobs and can spend as much money on their basses (wives permitting) that they want. Here on MX, you find generally younger players, who rely on their parents or a summer job in order to purchase gear.

I find the main problem with talk bass is almost, the routine geekiness of the place. The fact that whenever you make a thread asking a question on a certain bass, you have to wait about a day for a reply. Yet make a thread about a manufacturer (anyone, Fender, Sadowsky*, Yamaha) then within seconds about 5 sweaty TBers will have said "roxx0r", "owned" or proceeded to post pictures of their instruments and do a complete thread hijack with their rare, expensive basses

I go there a few times every day but I rarely post. It just takes so long for those guys to reply over there. I can post the same thread here and there and get responses in 5 minutes here, while i get none at all on TB. Also, all the Sadowsky talk over there has made me sick. :upset:

I <3 MX. ;)

They have jobs. Thats the difference.

Average age of people there would be at least 30 years.

They just serve a wider clientele. The extreme moderation makes it easy for anyone to use. Especially at work. Its the only site I dare visit at the job.

Some of those Talkbass members give money to the site, you see when they post it says "supporting member" at the top of thier message

They are a little more conservative also, they LOVE Sadowsky's on that site

i tryed getting used to talkbass but 13 year olds w/ no money are in no way respectable there. here is the place where ive seen age difference become very unimportant to a certain extent. that is good when people dont look down on you so much because of when you are born.

Mitchell Royce

The only times I've found that people at TB discriminated against people based on young age it was because behaving like a whiney 13 to 17 year old will attract such discrimiation. Actually, quite a few of the moderators are quite young (The youngest is 17, I think) and a lot of the members are teenagers or in their early twenties.
Even though the rules and their enforcement at TB can border on the fasciistic I do have to admit that it makes a much better forum experience. Maybe that's why I'm there more often than MX now.

TB intimidates me, so I stick with MX.

I personally like the look of those basses, beautiful, now if only I weren't poor and out of a job.

yeah...i've just joined TB to see what all the fuss is about, but my home will always be MX. You are all just too cuddly to leave behind completely!

Everybody on TalkBass is gay, and has secret, over-night sex orgies at Cil's house. That's why it takes a day to respond.

Duhhhh.

It's an age difference. More casual here, more goofy ego stuff here too. Once in a while I'll shoot down here to see what's going on. Though TB is where I spend more time. I'm 24 and have a decent income, so that might be part of it.

One the plus side, there are like at least 10-20 Edgebasses on TB to help you out if you have a tough problem.

The age difference between TalkBass and MX is significant.
And seeing as it is an all bass forum, there are a lot more professional players, and just generally more bass playing members (since they all play bass). I get pretty frustrated when I browse through there, when I see guys with mutiple f basses and foderas. I can wait till I have my own physical therapy clinic and a hot wife, cozy house, and a sh*tload of money on spend on a guitar/bass collection.

Oh, and they never reply to my f*cking threads, and I only post threads on there when I have a really good question that hasn't been asked before.

It seems like half the threads are "show of your *insert expensive botique brand*."
