hey i was wondering if anyone here has ever like transported their drums on a plane, like a full 5 piece kit with cymbals? i mean with the cases and all, do u have to pay more cuz like i would have a suitcase plus all the drums, i mean i think i could carry on the snare drum but im still left with the bass drum tom 1 tom 2 and floor, and the cymbals...
so if anyone has any tips tht would be helpful, thanks

I don't think they'd let you. "They might be weapons" type of thing.

Shure they would let you. Just check them like regular baggage (pack them extra carefully). I don't believe there is a limit on how much you can take with you.

yes there is ~ they will charge you.
your drums will be subjected to very cold temperatures and prolly treated like cr@p, i dont suggest it.
youd be better of shipping them.

Agreed. UPS/FedEX/DHL will treat them a lot better than any airline.

i'm with them.
however... if you have ATA/ATX flight cases, you might be ok.

I know Road Ready does custom shop/made to order cases.
I've seen a flight case made for a 6 piece kit, some cymbals, and hardware. Loaded up it was over 6 feet (2m) long, 4 feet (1.3m) tall, and over 400 pounds (189 kg). Also cases like that start at $500 and go up to about $2000.
BTW that case, loaded, shipped across the US from dock to dock is about $380.
Cases like that are for serious touring musicians who really want to protect their investment!

uh get soft cases and put those in hard cases, thats probably the best thing that you can do. I know for a fact that you can take cymbal cases, it might be hard and they might not be willing but tell them sternly but politely about your situation. Take the cymbals and have another band member ake the snare for you if possible.
