I have used aheads for about 2 months now. They seem alright to play with. But knowing me I'll do a thread in a couple months saying something like "**** aheads broke my cymbals" hehe. Mine are 5a
Just like I said but not in couple of months. In a couple of hours, A crack about 3cm has formed on my splash.
DAMN YOU AHEAD!!!

Heh, at least you knew what was coming. I don't know why people always have to find out for themselves what aheads do to your cymbals. I was the same way. The drum shop I went to wouldn't stock them, and refused to order them for me because they broke cymbals, but I had to have them, went and ordered them from musicians friend, or something like that, and sure enough broke 2 cymbals with them.

Those sticks suck so bad. I have heard too many cases of this happening to people to ever consider trying them out.

When shops don't stock an item because it's known to destroy your drumset, that tells you something...

What the hell does that mean!?!?!?!?!?!? :amaze: :amaze: :amaze: :amaze:
I just talked about them with someone I know at GC.... He says they're just a stupid gimmick and they cost more than wooden sticks, always have to replace that sleeve.... They make everything sound bad (hmmm weird coincidence with St.Anger!?) He justs stocks them cuz little kids who can't drum like to buy the Signature Sticks.... Makes them look ''cool''... Well at the eyes of the other kids.... We know what they really do....
I'd like to try and play Jazz with Aheads!
Anyone ever tried Carbosticks?? How are they?
Oh and if anyone wants indestructable sticks that don't suck, get Mainlines!
Breaking sticks is just part of the package of drumming though.. it's almost like, the visual indicator of.
It's like Jello right? Jello will always be jello, and even though it wouldn't change the taste or texture - If ya took Cosby away, it just wouldn't be Jello any more.
Can ya dig it my sont?

Just to let you know, Lars has been using Aheads for recording and live purposes since 1994. (This is pertaining to the sticks making the recordings for St. Anger suck, not that because Lars uses it, that they're good... ThugsRook :p ) I will say though, I didn't like how the drums sounded on the St. Anger Album, sounds like he's banging on trashcans. I know he changed his drumhead setup for that album, so maybe that's apart of it but who knows...

I too am interested in them, as Bernard Purdie apparantly uses them. And he shoudl know. Then again, you'd have thought all your Ahead drummers would too.

I wouldnt dare touch my drums with aheads jus incase they went straight threw a cymbal, or a drum head, or maybe even the floor when I drop one of them.
I'd also be afraid of hitting myself by accident.

Hehe the first time I picked up some aheads I just put them back and carried on using wooden sticks from there. I didn't want to play with them at our gigs, from then on, never picked them up since.
I mean I've never bought a pair, just tried and felt what they were like from someone else at a couple of gigs before. Don't like them.

I think you need to read why I wrote that sentence again.
It's even bolded. :thumb:

Hahah, I use 7A's and theyre the perfect weight for me, I don't think Aheads would even come close to being light enough for me.

CarboSticks:
They last you a while but while i used them two of my cymbals cracked and i know from another drummer who played some heavy rimshots with them they dented his hoop.

It's because Z Customs are so thick that they break easily, they're just so brittle. Not so much a problem with the Z rides or hats though.

Dam ,srry to hear that, im never using Aheads. it was funny, one time a drummer at my school needed to borrow my set for a gig, so I said ya sure.. when he came to pick them up he had a pair of Aheads in his hand I was like "Are you using those" he said "Ya" I was like "Not On My Set" So I went and boguht him 4 pairs of Vic Firth 5a and 7As wooden tips. all so he wouldnt use a single pair of Aheads on my Kit
