I just noticed something about these drums. They arent poplar. They're mahogany. This make them anymore worth it?

i have owned a elx scince 99 and i love this kit it sounds great and its really cheap i personaly think there ALOT better than tamas superstar customs i have owned both and pearl is def. the way to go no its not as good as the reference but with evens heads all the way around i really think it dose sound better than even sonors 3005's and i have played them too only with stock heads though

No.
My Peace is 100% mahogany and it only cost me $300.
Still way too overpriced.

Pearls are rip offs.... For that money you can start looking at Sonor 3005 which sounds much better and even might consider Mapex Saturn for a few hundreds more....
And those Peace kits are better than Exports..... I assembled both! And I was blown away by the Peace.... I was rather disgusted by the poor atention in the Pearl
For that money there's much better....

My maple peace paragon is meant to cost around the same as an export and it blows the export out of the water, it sounds awesome. Even when i had my stock heads on it, it was really great

Well if your getting an older ELX or EXR set, then it might not be as bad as the new ones, simply because the new ones are straight poplar. I don't think either would be worth it though. My Pro M 5-piece uses quality, all maple shells and it cost me less than either of those two Pearl kits would and sounds loads better. Unless your getting up into the Masters line of drums and past that, skip Pearl :thumb:

all i have to say is that i went to the local drum shop today and checked out a 2006 peace paragon it had discolored maple shells talk about low quality!
and it sounded like i was beating on cardboard yeah i do understand that the stock heads really blow but still for 999$ i really couldnt believe that someone would pick this set over an older export select

Im sure if it was tuned properly it would have sounded a lot better. most of the time when you see setup kits in store they are tuned like crap.

care to explain the term "discolored maple shells" ??? Cause if you mean a fade, those are some of the nicest finishes out there.
Anyway, from your previous posts in this thread, I think its safe to say that your opinion or the "facts" you post dont count for anything

By discolored, I mean each shell had several knots on the inside. That means the wood is very low quality, If you didnt already know that... and dude my kit came out when you were 10.... so wtf are you talkin?
