Slipknot used to be so cool, then they decided to let everybody they've ever had a beer with in the band...

I suggest you get a good pair of headphones and listen to them. You'd be suprised. (And if you've done that already and still say that, well I feel sory for you.)

And on the song Gently, it sounds like he has the mids turned down a bit...

2 Guitars (Mick and Jim), 1 bass (Paul), 1 Vocals (Corey), 1 drums (Joey), 2 percussionists (Shawn and Chris), 1 DJ (My main man Sid), and 1 Sampler (Craig). ;)

And I hope that the people who put down Slipknot for having 9 members aren't fans of the Mars Volta, who have nearly as much...

This is sort of off topic, but have you guys heard slipknots first cd (it was never released, so Im guessing not) but its really cool paul is actually a pretty damn good bass player, they played like jazz, funk, and mixed it with metal it was quite intresting.

Mate Feed Kill Repeat

Made everyone think Paul was an awesome bassist. Really just made him overrated.

If I might be allowed to say so...

My buddy Saber had slipknots newest cd and it seems like they're getting their act together and starting to write more serious music. But...I may have been stoned...

Yeah thats it, but its cool how now that he holds back a lot in there newer stuff. Its nothing incedible but it pretty cool.

I play that funky music

its amazing how a simple question about paul grey turns into a little dispute...i am sorry, i am not sure on paul's tone exactly how he achieves it...i'll do a little research for ya on that...

but sometimes i think there shouldn't be any topics allowed about paul grey how it is for hmmm...the guy from the band that starts with a blink and ends in -82...because people always go off topic from the subject for instance, this one about his tone in Gently on how good or bad of a bassist he is...

no one really wants to hear your thoughts about him in this thread, the threadstarter only wanted to know how to achieve his tone...if you wanted to dispute over his level of skill in playing...go to the Slipknot Thread (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215427) and discuss it there...

I thought they considered their sound engineer a member of their band, making 10 members. Someone told me that.

could the low tunings of his bass help with that clanking sound in gently?

I didnt think he downtuned

I thought he used a fiver?

If its clanking its probably cutting back the bass a bit, maxing out the treble, and boosting the mids a good bit. A pick helps as well.

Actaully, when I saw them back in March he played that bass for most of the show. it's an Ibanez ATK. That pic looks recent too, it looks like he has the new mask on.

he IS allowed to use more than one bass  he is more known for his warwick... but, i wouldn't be surprised if it was a recent pic... although, it seems somewhat old to me? but im not real sure...

I'm pretty sure it's new. Even if it isn't, he's been playing the ATK more often, I saw it with my own two eyes!

he definetly boosts mids and bass, maybe flat treble with NEW strings, that is the biggest part of gentlys tone new strings thats how he gets the clank and the crisp tone
