So, it gets to the night, I haven't had time to change strings, but not to worry, a colleage has bought in his own amp, with a perfect tone. The college teacher has decided we play last. We had some hard acts to follow, so I was pretty much bricking it by the time I was plugging in my Jazz. We were all in suits, we looked the business, and on the night we sounded the business aswell.

We opened the set with hey joe, our guitarist played the first notes and the crowd (all of about 50-60 people) went wild, all my nerves completely dissapeared. During our heavy metal version of cry me a river, the drummer broke his stick, but my fender jazz and I kept the rest going :D. The suits were hot, but I played on! During the Finale "Flying Without Wings" (once again another rock cover) the huge powerballad everyone had their lighters out! We played so well, even for my first gig (and the drummers). All in all a great night. Then it was off to the pub. Much booze and merriment had by all :)

Not yet. Its really good. I didn't even mess the rythm up at the point when our drummer decided to up the tempo to a steve harris speed :). I do have a really big blister on my middle finger. I knew I should of got better strings!!! O well hehe. I almost fogot it was a college assignment. We were with all the other bands on our college course. We upstaged them all, which is good seeing as we headlined. Still got to evaluate the gig and get some feedback but hey!! Was the most fun piece of homework haha.

Now we gotta write a 500 word essay on Led Zeppelin :D

what is the subject of the zep essay?

Well, we have to pick a sixties band (I know zeppelin = very latre sixties but hey he said we could do it if we really wanted) and comment on how the blues influenced it, and the social, economic and polictal factors bringing it about. Then in the bands we played in for the gig we have to cover a British 60's blues band, so we're either doing Cream, Zeppelin or The Yardbirds :D

Yeh it is. Best educational choice. My basslines were very simple, but effective (except for hey joe and message in a bottle) but effective. Sounded awesome. We blew everyone before us away, which is good, seeing as we headlined. That was my main cincern, was that everyone else was going to be better than us, but nope :D. We're playing an Xmas gig with the college, and our own gig in December at a major Hertfordshire club, where bands such as NHOI (supported bowling for soup, US Band), Queen Adrena and Adequate 7. And couple of other college assignments and maybe one or two other gigs

I go to a college like that one, the Acadmey of Music And Sound in Birmingham. We do performances at the end of every term, and we've had to put our knowledge of the music industry to use and organise the last two ourselves with no help.
Congrats on upstaging everyone else man! :thumb:

I play that funky music

I hope my collage classes are like that.

I hope my first gig goes like that too.

You know what your problem is?

You know what modesty and humility are.

Tsk tsk tsk.

You're so stupid, acting all "realistic" about being an acomplished musician. Shame.

I love playing in suits.
:amaze:
It rocks, especially whith sunglasses.

A little story:
We had guitar, bass, drums and piano and started with heavey distorted rock. After the last chords, the pianist continued with this jazzy piece and we relax, calm down and swing with a jazz influenced piece we wrote. Everybody really, really liked it and we played it twice for the school. :D

And threadstarter: nice that everything went well! Are you still going to change the strings now?

O, and did i mention we tour amsterdam as part of our course
AMSTERDAM?

Hé! Tell me when you get there! I will hook up with you, if you're still active at the boards then :D

I live 80 km south of the city :thumb:
