thats not ashdown, because I perfer transparent tone to warm tone. but my max spending limit is 300. and would like to spend as little as possible.
I want the loudest thing I can get for the cheapest
It's really just for self practice right now but I'd like it to be able to hold up to a band practice as well. I don't need all the tone shapping impressive eq. I'm fine with a 3 band actually.
would a 60watt swr 12" speaker be able to do the job?
and is the GKbackline series really that crappy? just for practice?

are you looking for a combo or just an amp? if you're looking just for an amp look into hartke..a combo maybe look into fender rumble..

Just about anything on the market... SWR's are really flavored.

 no
c'mon you know what we/I meant, transparent as in the tone your bass gives is almost uneffected when coming out of the amp. a clear crystal tone.

Eden/Nemesis combos would be right up your alley, though those are out of your budget by quite a bit.
SWR would sound like what you're looking for, I just wouldn't trust a 60W, 12" speaker to be loud enough in a band situation. As a general rule, I'd say you need 100 watts for the headroom to be heard. At least.

^123. if you could spend about $100 more you could probably get a behringer stack which would most likely be louder than a 60-100w combo. my very first half-stack was a behringer 2x10 with a 300w behringer head. it wasn't great but it did its job.

If you want something to play in a band with, save until you've got about 600$, and then buy solid used high-end gear.
That is, IMO, the best way to get a killer rig.
Or, be like me, and get really damn lucky!

My SWR LA12 is fine for practice. Though I doubt I could gig with it..

SWR is nice stuff... I might buy a Goliath III cab to add on to my half-stack.

just for practices. I know that a half stack would be loudest and best choice. but since im not in a gigging band yet I just want something loud enough for my home practices, and maybe band practices later on.

I <3 Fender Rumble 100s... as i have said countless times b4. In my opinion the best sounding out there for the price...

If you have an amp now, I suggest living with it for practicing at home, and saving up for giggable stuff. To me, if something is not giggable, then it's not lound enough for practicing with a band.

I have a fender rumble 15. It sucks and is very buzzy and burnt out. I'm more in need of a bass but dont want to play a snazzy bass through a crappy amp. Im looking into an avatar 2x10 and then maybe the cheapest hartke head they offer.

I don't even use an amp to practice with at home, so meh. *shrugs* If you were nearby, I'd sell you one of those Ibanez SW 60's or whatever for, like, 60$.
