The Ibanez GSR Starter pack is a fantastic bass and amp for the price and is great to get started on

same goes for the yamaha and peavey starter packs

just dont go with rouge, nasty buggers they are

well i live in sydney, and i picked up my monterey p-bass and drive practice amp for about $350

tis a decent bass, and is good to learn on.

i'd say more, but it's 10 at night, and i don't feel like typing.

oh, and i haven't had any experience with the GSR, but i have heard many posts much like Killer Fridge's

I would try out as many basses and amps you can in a store, but go in with a price limit and talk to the clerks because they will often take money off the price of things.

Also seeing your from Brisbane Allan's Music in the Queen St Mall is having a big sale this weekend if you want to go.

i found this bass and amp pack for $400 and it's apparantly good quality for its price range and it is made by fender(i think its a fender squire pack)

try looking at a yamaha rbx 170, its my first and only bass, and i love it...

they aren't expensive at all and would leave room for a practice amp.

squires aren't great, i would reccommend probably going for a low end yamaha or Ibanez

I'm not sure if you'd be able to find one in australia, but if you can I'd recommend a Tanglewood Rebel 4k and Peavey Microbass amp. Not sure about prices but you could probably get that in the UK for about £250.

it should be maybe 15-30 if you are planning on just playing in your room, and also the speaker should be at least 8 inches so you get some good bass tone out of it.

the 8 inches is only if you can afford that...but it shouldnt be too absurd.

i have got brochures beside me and the amps are 30 watts and are $400 is that to epensive fot the amount of wattage or is that about right?

blizzard

for just bedroom practise a nice 20 watt maybe> I bought a Behringer 60 watt which is loud for its price though they are a bit hit or miss.

I would check out the Roland Cube 30 watt, great tone from a small amp and also a Fender Rumble 25 watt.

for the first one I would go into a shop and be like "i have this much money ______ and could you help me get a basic set up just so i can play in my room and learn bass"

or something like that.

i hate to diss a bass i've never played, but i've only heard bad things about squires ...........................Well, they can last 1-2 years if you treat it well, even if you play everyday. You'll still need to change strings every 6 months or so, but my guitarist friend got by with his Squier Guitar Pack without changing for 2 years. :amaze:

My Squier beginner pack has lasted me for a long time, and gotten the job done, but I still needed to upgrade, so I now play my MIM J Bass.

Think about that statement: They can last 1-2 years if you treat them well. 1-2 years isn't a very long time. That is about right on the lifespan of my squier, which has a bunch of problems now. A quality insturment should last much longer than that.

personally i wouldn't spend a lot of money on a practice amp if you plan on ever joining a band...get a used crate bx-10 or something so you can start saving up for more wattage when you need it. i don't really care that my practice amp has poor tone; i only care what i sound like when i play out.
