OK, so I use my sisters webcam as a microphone. The quality sucks and I have to hold it right up to my face in order for anyone to hear.

Recently, I bought new headphones with a microphone to use while playing online. THe headphones work beautifully, but the mic doesn't. I know it works, I can tap on it and hear for myself. The computer doesn't seem to recognize it, when I use it on CS my name doesn't come up when I hold the talk button. I made sure the microphone mute box was unchecked, what else can I try???

Did you install the drivers for it?

It didn't come with any software.

On your sound options like for your soundcard try messing with some settings. Exmaple see below

Of course this was the first thing I checked...

I'm downloading the latest drivers for my soundcard, I don't know what else.

:-\. Xbox live/halo 2 has ruined my opinion of mics.

Update: OK, this is key. If I play a song on winamp I can record it in soundrecorder.

That means your mic is set to record any sounds the computer makes, and not the mic itself. There should be settings in the volume somewhere, post a screenshot

/uses Creative Volume Control

I disabled then re-enabled something on my soundcard. Now it works fine. Thanks for the help, guys.

Kif: It still records stuff on my computer, but that's cool (unless it starts to give me problems then I'll look into it)
