Maple, bronze and aluminum are all gorgeous drums if they are high quality. 3mm metal shells rule.

I've pretty much only had experience with metal snares and that makes me a sad panda.

Deep wood snares all the way. I love the dark crack of an 7" deep oak snare.. mmmmm
I used to love a small metal snare and just wanted a high pitch "pop". However I now have a 14x6 maple on the way.

I love the crack of metal snares, I love wood though too. I think everyone should have both because its good to be able to select one to suit the music your playing.

You get such a great crack and a ton of low-end body from a 6"x14" maple, but I don't think anything can beat the skull-splitting crack of a 6"x14" bronze, so it really depends on your situation, it can be really hard to pick a favorite.

All i can say at the moment is that I like the sound of my starclassic snare more than my acrolite. could be tuning, could be heads. i dont know. just like the wooden one more

DWs aluminum snare sounds better than Ultracast, I find Ultracast doesn't really live up to the hype.

I've got 2 wooden ones; a 14x6.5 Mapex Pro-M, and a 14x5 maple Arbiter ART. I would love a nice metal one as well tho'
Am looking to get a little steel 10x5 as a side snare for Xmas - I love the sound those little buggers make

I played a wood snare for a while, and played a metal snare at school and my choice would be metal. the ring that comes off a metal snare is awsome. I'm definately saving up for one right now. Any suggestions on snares?

I'll admit this: I definitely prefer wooden sticks to metal ones

Pearl Steel Senistone. It is cheap and good value.

Well I refinished my crappy Ludwig Accent Combo snare, took of laquer stained and got new hardware and it sounds better than my metal Chad Smith snare. So now I'm selling my Chad Smith so I can get more gear that it needed.
180 USD for the snare. Anyone?
