avenged sevenfold

me and a friend of mine have gotten into an arguement about avenged sevenfold and atreyu, he thinks their punk bands but i think their pure metal, he said they were punk bands because they played at the warped tour but i believe metal bands have played in the warped tour before. so i was wondering what some of u have to think about this arguement and say which genre you think they belong in

As already said, there is already an a7x thread, but to answer your question, DEP played Warped tour as well. And a7x's albums are (in order of release), metalcore, metal, and power metal. (General consensus)

And to answer the question, Avenged Sevenfold are neither punk NOR pure metal. They have both metal and punk influence beats in their music. They could have been considered more metalcore in STST, and maybe even a little in WTF, but definitely not on CoE.
