I was looking at Guitar Center and they have a CAD 7-piece drum mic set for $200 USDOLLARS. But Samash has Samson 7-piece set for $250. http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=2&TempID=3&STRID=18241&Method=3&CategoryID=90&BrandID=1456&PriceRangeID=0&PageNum=0&DepartmentID=4&pagesize=10&SortMethod=3&SearchPhrase=&Contains=&Search_Type=Department&GroupCode= What would you guys buy? Thanks for the help.

Although mic packs are convienent, you have to be careful. 7 mics for $200 is NOT going to give you what you want or might expect. My Beta 52 bass mic is normally around $180 and that's just ONE mic, and your looking at a set of SEVEN for that price. I don't think those would be worth your money. Now most would suggest buying individually and that's probably the smartest route to take, but I myself bought this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/270298/) and have had no regrets about it. I feel the mics I got were worth the money I paid for them, so I guess all I can say is be careful about different mic packs. If you really want to invest in one, make sure it's worth your money, otherwise buy individually to make sure you get exactly what you need :thumb: BTW, I got that PG pack I linked on Ebay for $350 brand new as a half gift, so I only paid $175 for the whole kit, so even if people think that's too much for that level of mics, I don't think I got ripped off

Dude, do you seriously think that you will be getting 7 quality mics for 200$?
If you want a full set of 7 mics at "decent" (not "pro" or "great" but "decent") quality, you are looking at at least 600 bucks, and that's probably on e-bay.
Also, condensors for overheads are pretty sensitive mics. If you buy them second hand, who knows in what state they are? If they have been dropped on the floor several times over, don't expect the sound that comes out of it to be crystal clear.
I wanted to get me a nice mic-set in march/april. So instead of jumping on the cheapest thing available at that moment, I decided to save up and got this set about 2-3 weeks ago:
AKG mic set (http://www.musik-produktiv.de/shop2/shop04.asp/sid/!06082002/artnr/2702031)
And I couldn't be happier...
These things are not out of reach. These are not THAT expensive. Anybody could save up for them. It doesn't require you to be a billionair you know?
Don't waste you money. Buying a 7-mic pack is an investment. Invest wisely.

Yeah I wish I could afford to buy really exspensive but I don't have that option. I am really trying to work on a tight budget. So what is the best way to record a 5 piece kit?

Like I said, the set I bought is not "really expensive", in fact, I'ld even say that's pretty much standard price for a decent 7-piece mic setup.
You want to talk "really expensive"? How about a condensor mic (ONE mic) for 2000$? I mentioned that I decided to get mics back in march/april. That's like more then half a year ago. I have been saving for it since then and only bought them several weeks ago.
If you really wish to keep it "really cheap", I'ld suggest not going for a 7-piece set and maybe only invest in 2 good overheads, an SM57 for the snare and a nice bass mic. You can get the toms, the hats and the cymbals with the overheads.
Off course, if quality is not important (but since when is that the case, right?) and if it is only to fool around a bit, by all means, go for the cheap ones.
But I'm just thinking, if in a year or two, you decide to get more serious (wich is pretty probable), you're gonna want to have better gear. And in that case you will realise that you wasted 500 dollars on a cheap mic set.
200 for the mics and another 300 for stands and cables (yep, that's the price of setting up SEVEN mics, and I'm assuming the tom mics don't need stands and are tom-mounted instead as well!). And to what are you gonna hook it up? If you want 7 mics, you need 7 inputs, wich means an 8 track mixer. BAM! Another 200 bucks. We're up to 700 now for extreme low-end quality.
Some stuff to think about...
Don't rush into stuff like this. It can turn out to be an expensive joke man. Not trying to get you down here, just warning you.
