This is going to be a GWAR discussion thread. So... let us keep the negative comments out of the thread. Or at least keep it at a very small amount.


Current Gwar line-up is:
Oderus Urungus - Vocals
Balsac The Jaws of Death - Guitar
Flattus Maximus - Guitar
Beefcake the Mighty - Bass
Jizmak da Gusha - Drums

I don't know much about these guys besides that they used to be a punk band called Death Piggy, and one day during a show, managed to get some costumes from a sci-fi movie that was being filmed, and came up on stage dressed up in the alien suites and presented themselves as GWAR. And they got a great reaction from the crowd, and kept doing that.

What does GWAR stand for, you might be asking? It stands for "God What an Awful Racket".

So, please if anyone wants to contribute to more info on the band please feel free to post.

Now, seeing as I just saw them last night! Oh yeah! :cool:
HERE IS MY CONCERT REVIEW: I won't bother to review the other bands which were a local band, A Dozen Furies, DevilDriver, then GWAR.

GWAR came out and opened with 2 songs I didn't recognize. I don't now many, just the random songs I've heard and the ones I have on my computer. The first song, they bring out, the Pope. Dressed out in his robe, but it's decked out with swastikas. The crowd is going nuts, and the Pope begins to say some things, and throwing the "Heil Hitler" hand thing. And then out of nowhere, Oderus bends him over, has one of his slaves hand him a sword and decapitates him. Blood is spewed all across the crowd. I got it pretty bad because I was exactly in the front leaning on the rail.

The third song they played was Womb With A View. Which was incredibly fun to headbang to. Another song passes, then Oderus tells us about how a GWAR concert just wouldn't be complete with out the murdering of president Bush. So, Bush is wheeled out in some thing that looks like an autopsy table, made out of dinosaur bones, and Bush gives a speech about his war on terror, and admits, "Kanye was right, I really hate black people". So he is then disemboweled while a song is played, and even more blood is sprayed everywhere while Bush is trying to put his intestines back into him, and the crowed is going even more crazy, in the middle of the song Dick Chaney walks out, and receives a decapating slice to the neck.

About 2 songs passed, and then Sharron Osbourne walks out, with a miniature Ozzy looking thing. And she begins to rant about how she can do what ever she wants because she is Ozzy's wife, and how Maiden is a crappy band. So GWAR strips off her shirt, rip out her guts, and her breasts are hacked off, and begin to squirt blood out. Smoke begins to shoot out of Jizmak's drum-set as well. Then during the next song, some weird alien beast comes out, and begins to kill the GWAR slaves, and Oderus decides that kind of **** just isn't acceptable, and kills it.

Then they played Bring Back The Bomb. Which has an awesome chorus to sing to:
Bring--bring back the bomb
Bring--bring--bring--bring back the bomb

Bring back the bomb
It's been far too long
Sumon the brazen war chariot
Bring back the bomb
what makes it so wrong?
Release the beast, you can't bury it

So, then they play Gor-Gor. And bring out their T-Rex looking dinosaur. Oderus didn't do much singing in this song, but Beefcake took over while Oderus had to kill it. Gor-Gor killed one of the slaves which resulted in more blood spraying on the crowed, and then much more when it was stabbed through the head. After this all the members leave except Balsac and Oderus, the crowed is now chanting, "GWAR.--GWAR". Balsac begins to play a slow tune, and then Beefcake comes back out playing bass. Then Flattus came out and playing an acoustic riff. The song was Immortal Corrupter. And I was freaking out, because that's my favorite song.

It was awesome, but I was hoping they'd bring out Osama and de-flesh him like they do in the music video. During the last few songs, Micheal Jackson came out, and had his nose ripped off, then his whole face, and started molesting a baby with his huge penis, which was cut off. And Oderus began to spray the crowed with his penis that shot out purple liquid, and the Slaves brought out some kind of cannon and totally hosed everyone. They ended with a slow song I didn't recognize. All in all, it was an awesome concert, and even if you absolutely abhor GWAR, I recommend you go. My t shirt is completely stained, and I had to go to school today with pink and purple in my hair, and pink finger nails. :lol:

I'll check them those out. I have a friend who I think has SotU.. I think. I know he has a GWAR album. One song they played sounded an aweful lot like the mid riff in Slayer's Angel of Death. It was pretty similar sounding... maybe one of you guys can help me out in naming it?

Proud owner of every gwar album, they have been my favorite band for years, and are amazing live. This Toilet Earth and Violence Has Arrived are my two favories.

Saw em last night in San Diego and they kicked. I didnt really like the openers much, but I guess it must be pretty hard finding ones that fit well with GWAR. They also fought a hunchbacked elephant-turtle robot thing that shot black stuff at you. One of the GWAR slaves dumped a bucket of left over blood on me and a few others too. I cant wait to rock my red and purple clothes at school:thumb: . My contact lenses were permanently stained red from all the blood. I got some in my fingernails still too. It was just total radness from begining of their set to the end.

Dude, that's where I saw them at HoB as well. The tips of my hair is pink.. it kind of sucks, but getting sprayed with the blood from people was pretty cool. Michael Jackson's flippen face was ripped off. :lol:

Nah.. my hair tips are pink NOW, because my hair is blonde, and the blood stained them. :lol: Tha'ts what I ment. Yeah, M.J's and was probably one of the funniest death's there.

I haven't heard to much of them. But...I was watching 101 most METAL moments on VH1 and I guess the Georgia Police sued them for obscene stage behaviour, and they fought back and won the case. I guess they gave all the profit to the missing childrens foundation.

Their songs are hilarious. I've heard they're really good live. I'd love to see them, but I'm so out of the loop as far as tour dates go. When I finally find out they're here, the show's sold out or blah blah, whatever :(

Yes, GWAR are classic. The interviews that Dave Brockie does are always an interesting read.

The videos are also great. The 'Meat Sandwich' video being my fave. Oderus owns Jesus at basketball and goes to pick him up, doesn't and then mocks him. Hilarity.

Yeah Oderus has his penis hanging out, it looks like some messed up oppossum with a long neck, and his balls are two human brain looking thing. But during one song he started rubbing his "penis" and sprayed this purple liquid all over the crowd.

Yeah, I posted my review in here. I saw them Monday night. My hair is still stained pink at the tips. I tried to take a picture of my self the night I got home, I was pure red and purple.. but my camera's batteries were dead, and so I tried with my computer's camera but it sucks.

A friend of mine just recently went to a gwar concert where everything was how you described, in Chico and in San Francisco.

I love Gway, they have a very odd sounding vocalist, but that just makes me like them more. I don't know what my favorite song is by them, but the songs that got me addicted to their music was Sick of You, and Immortal Corrupter.

Actually, though GWAR would most likely blow the opening bands performance away. Like they did when I saw them, they let the other band members dress up as their slaves and got to run around on stage getting killed and spraying blood on the fans.

i never ever use the forum anymore but people started speaking of gwar.. i haev seen gwar 8 times in my life....why you ask, well i think its either the fact that every single time i seen them i have been blown away or maybe its the fact that everytime i go to a gwar concert i end up smoking dope with dave brockie and if anyone does not believe me i want them to email me and ask for proof cuz i have a picture with myself and dave and he has a jay in his mouth :lol: good times and another thing anyone who is getting into gwar listen to the songs "Brign Back the Bomb' "Crack in the egg" "Ham on the bone" "Maggots" "A short history of the end of the world" and dont forget to listen to "Surf OF Syn" or if u want to hear beefcake sing listen to "cool place to park" or "Pus sy planet" this will start u off on ur gwar adventure!!! if u end up likeing gwar listen to there side projects like death piggy, x-cops or Dave brockie expierence you will end up being a gwar fanatic such as i am and another thing if u do see gwar either buy a white gwar shirt or just buy a muscle shirt (or "Wife beater as some call em) and draw on it... i have done that at every gwar show and have a shirt for each i have one that looks tye died with green red and brown (one other thing dont wash gwar shirt!!) and i have one that is completly red with a splot of blue and i have a pure green one. If u do not like getting wet or dirty during a concert gwar is NOT for you!!! often when you see gwar live u will see poly wrapped all over the place to protect stuff its quite awsome!!! this year gwars victims include Sharon Osbourne, Gor-Gor, Micheal JAckson, Dick Chaney, George Bush, Nazi pope with nazi solider (well there not nazi they have a logo that is called krosstika and its basically a swastica with a cross over top of it and its super bad ***!! and there is the monsters they slay there is bonesnapper (a troll like monster with a shell on its back) and some other monster whom i dont recall a name for it..... but yes gwar = greatist fukin rock band evah!!!:naughty: :naughty:

Dude! Thank you. That's the song they opened with. I knew I recognized it. But yeah when I saw them the Pope all Swazi'd out was the first person they killed. I personally cannot find and DBX songs any where not on Dave's site. But I'm kind of interested in what they sound like because I hear Balsac and Jizmak are in the band also. I think Balsac's real name is Mike.

the show i saw was a slave pit band, a dozen furies and devildriver. im sure they didn't mind too much, as i think a lot of people were there for devildriver moreso than gwar.
