i just got my double pedal and will be doing all of my regular rudiments with my feet. i also want to start learning a song with some double bass in it.

1) i looked at disturbed, down with the sickness. is this not a good song to start with?

2) what songs would be good to start with?

Get the double bass drumming bible and play through that until you get comfortable enough that you can play comfortably and use it in your own stuff. The techniques will help you when learning songs as well

How does the 7002 feel compared to the IC's? My local stores only have IC's...

I wouldn't start playing with songs for alittle while at least. You'll be forcing yourself to go faster then your ready for wich will be detrimental in your quest to become better.

Stick with the rudi's (to a click of course) and a good book for awhile.

how about just figuring it out all on your own completly by feel?
is that concept too far fetched for some of you?

double bass song? what defines a single bass song?
if you play double bass in a single bass song doesnt that make it a double bass song?

HAhaha Are there ride cymbal songs too?!

I also forgot, a great way to build double bass chops is use your left foot for what your right one would have done... you know, on those single bass songs.

Try doing your rudis with your hands and feet at the same time.

Obviously only up to the speed of your feet. And use a click track.

paradiddles with you feet underneath a single or double stroke roll on your hands = great for independence and builds chops.

Stick control + feet = better control and playing.

Work with a click.

Heres a good trick i use. Use a book like the funky primer or another book that has fairly basic beats in it. Play them using your left foot instead of your right. It will strenghten your right foot alot. Then once your right foot is up to speed you can start working on rudiments. However make sure you focus on proper technique.

i'm only learning double bass as well, but i usually stick a slow song on, for example Hoobastank - The Reason, and loop these bars...

H |x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-|
S |----o-------o---|
B |o-------oooo----|

H |x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-|
S |----o-------o---|
B |oooo----oooo----|

H |x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-|
S |----o-------o---|
B |oooooooooooooooo|

i start with the first example, and once i am comfortable i go on to the second example, and finally the third

hope this helps

I know you are supposed to use the same rudiments you use with your hands, singles, doubles, paradiddles etc but to be honest I couldn't be bothered and just set myself the task to learn St. Anger within 2 weeks. I nearly killed myself with the effort but I did it, and I recorded myself when my time was up to see if I was actually playing it properly, I was.

Worked for me, but then I have a ridiculous level of dedication (I'm not saying that you don't though) :thumb:

Dude, get a life. He is asking for songs with double bass to play along to.

Threadstarter: play rudiments along to a click. Also, if you check out the past several months of MD, it has had an entire course of double bass work, from basic double bass grooves to fills. If you can get your hands on that stuff (if you have it, or maybe a friend) I suggest it.

dude, learn how to quote.

my point is hed be better off playing to single bass songs and making up his own double bass parts. that will teach him much more then just playing to a "double bass song".

emulation is fine but the whole point of being a drummer is being original and creative. now is a good time to start.

i've been working on getting some speed with this, as well as doing al lriduments with my feet while playing a single stroke roll with my hands:

BD|o-------oooo---|
