Take these forums for example, the number of americans who like muse could be counted on the fingers of one hand.

I'm a math major, so I'm going to take this approach:

statistically, this is not a representative sample of Americans as a whole.

For example, I went to my Facebook profile and searched for people that have "Muse" in their music field. In the first two pages, I counted 15 people that I recognized that fulfilled that. This is also taking into consideration that about 13 of these 15 go to my school, which is a small college and thus has a lot less people who appreciate decent music.
I don't know, I'm just saying that it seems like they're fairly popular here in America. I mean, they had 3 or 4 singles from Absolution being played fairly consistently after that album came out.
However, if you want to say that they're vastly more popular over there on the other side of the lake, I WILL agree with you wholeheartedly. :)

*RUMOUR* Muse to Support RATM *RUMOUR*

Oh my god! How very weird, I was thinking that their style has changed enough to bring back such poppy numbers that got dropped back when they were all about the riffs.

Now they're dropping the heavier stuff like Hyper Music and Dead Star, so Unintended is more appropriate for their stadium rock sound and poppier audience.

Matt's voice sounds better than ever, it's so smooth baby on Unintended. Sounding very Jeff Buckley I thought, personally. Though I've been listening to a lot of Jeff Buckley bootlegs what with it being the 10 year anniversary of his death on tuesday.

Makes me happy, Matt's about the same age that Buckley was in his best years now though too, so I'm not surprised at the maturity in his voice. You can totally hear it in Unintended though, seeing as it hasn't been played for so long.

Please, never compare Matt to Jeff Buckley ...

Please, never compare Matt to Jeff Buckley ...

Why? He's DIRECTLY influenced by him. I agree that he's not as vesitile a singer, but Matt was clearly Buckley influenced for that song, especially given what he's said before, and like I said, I'd been listening to a lot of Buckley bootlegs around the time when I heard that live youtube video, and there was a definate simularity in delivery. So shush.

I love Jeff as much, or maybe more than you, let's not go around saying you can't compare him to anyone.

Saturday 16th

Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Dirty Pretty Things

Muse

Sunday 17th

Shy Child
Biffy Clyro
My Chemical Romance
Muse

How utterly utterly shit. I can't quite believe how they managed to band together such a rubbish collection of bands for what is almost the first gig ever at the new Wembley, I'd have thought bands would have been queuing up to get in on the action.

I seriously might sell my ticket (at face value).

I don't want to be disrespectful, but I've seen Muse twice before and I kinda shelled out the ticket price on the assumption that there'd be some other bands which I enjoyed playing on the same day. If I had a Saturday ticket I'd quite willingly go because I adore The Streets and DPT and R&G are perfectly watchable...but I can't stand Biffy, MCR and have never even heard of Shy Child....I'd love to see Muse, but I'd be better off with the cash I think.

which is the best album of muse to start with?

Clunge
06-04-2007, 11:13 AM
Well...

Showbiz - Angsty, teen-rock
Origin Of Symmetry - Well crafted, defined songs which show off Muse at their weirdest
Absolution - Apocalyptic, heavy pianos and classical influences
Black Holes And Revelations - Pop-prog, with more synths and generally a bit dancier/more commercial

I'd go with Origin Of Symmetry but if any of those descriptions take your fancy, go with whichever. All four albums are brilliant.

Alternatively, I could make you a 10/11 song mix and upload it for you to give you a taste.

Clunge

Nah, when it rains over here, it's usually cold and windy as well.

It's never particularly humid in England, you get spells of humidity (where I live it's been sticky for a week or so) but then you get a bout of rain or a storm that clears the air.

There were a lot of cameras on saturday and even more on sunday. They had camera-people roaming the crowd at times, as well as filming entrances and exits to the stadium, and those leaving the standing area at the end.

There were even helicopters overhead on both nights, filming ariel shots presumably.

Muse wore identical clothes on both nights too, lending the footage to be used for a DVD (i.e. any bit of footage within a certain song is interchangable).

There is a DVD coming out.

Epic concert... so good to see my fav band playing there.

I was in the golden circle, leaning against bar directly in front of the jib. Leaping about like an idiot.

Take a Bow was pretty awesome. Although.. I think Stockholm Syndrome along with some of their "random jams" ending it would be better... (as in Earls court, another amazing gig)

And the trouble with beginning it with Take a Bow is that it begins too quietly and slowly. I wanna see an epical entrance.

Clunge
06-19-2007, 12:53 AM
Take A Bow couldn't have opened either night because they'd be playing it when it's still light.

Which would have been rubbish.

Also, Muse always open and close their full length gigs with songs from their newest/current album. They have closed a few times with Stockholm Syndrome on this tour but only at festival slots/support slots really.

On the left hand, about the exact same distance as well :p

Golden Circle was jawsome though.

Also, Muse always open and close their full length gigs with songs from their newest/current album. They have closed a few times with Stockholm Syndrome on this tour but only at festival slots/support slots really.

Nottingham they closed with Stockholm Syndrome, cos I was there.

Yup, but they've only done that 4/5 times at their own gig.

Nottingham was the big exception because it was the first time they ever played BH&R in it's entirety .

And expect you didnt get much older stuff.

Brand New where the best for playing the Entire album, they played 5 tracks of there first, then all of deja entendu, then 5/6 tracks off the new album.

If muse did that, itd be mint.

I'd get bored to tears at that gig.

The only songs off Showbiz and OOS I'd actually want to hear are:

- Muscle Museum
- Showbiz
- New Born
- Bliss
- Hyper Music
- Plug In Baby
- Citizen Erased

Screw the rest.

Falling Down live is ace. Escape is boring, true, but Falling Down totally has it's charm live.

Dead old performance from 99;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEbgH0v4NkM

I'm not sure i'd want to see it live on these new tours, but the falsetto does slay live.

I think the thing is, they need to keep old songs in line with their current sound to some extent, I suppose thats why there's no Dead Star or Hyper Music on this tour because of the more pop edge that they're portraying at the moment and less of the heavy heavy riffing which fans of Supermassive Black Hole and Starlight might not like at all.

Showbiz totally has it's brilliant moments, and a fair bit of **** on it, and some songs are less than what they could be cos of cheesy/bad lyrics, Origin though, I could seriously hear most songs off it live and not be bored, with the exception of Screenager which I almost never listen to.

I think doing an album back to back is a bit gay, but I suppose it's cool doing as a one off or something. Unless it's really a concept album with the tracks joining together, then I could see it working better.

Hi guys. I'm back, eh.

A South African dude started a facebook group - one of those staple groups you always see in third-world countries - called "Campaign to bring Muse to South Africa". The concept is simple: there's a company called Big Concerts who started last year bringing big-name international artists to South Africa en masse. The first such gig included The Rasmus, Metallica, and a fair few others (around 6 or 8 in total). The purpose of this group is to show Big Concerts that it is viable to bring Muse to SA, as by joining the group, one is basically signing a petition that one will attend the concert if it happens. Currently, the group stands at 2070 members, which for a facebook group consisting purely of South Africans is enormous.

Recently, one of the execs at Big Concerts e-mailed the group founder, letting him know that they are doing everything in their power to bring Muse to SA in 2008.

FVCK YES :D :D :D

A guy who plays with my dad a lot uses a Pedulla. SUCH a beautiful bass...

I got bored last night and figured out nearly 2 minutes of the intro to Take A Bow by ear. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out the synth part where the drums come in, which is IMO the best part of the song...:(

Oh well. The extra synth line is for the vocals (I tried to sing, and quickly scrapped that idea :p). Critique away.

I don't know why he stopped using Pedulla.

They piss all over any rickenbacker or fender he uses.

Time to piss on your bonfire.

Muse won't be touring in 2008. They're finishing the BH&R tour in Nov/Dec this year, then taking a break before starting on album #5.

Unless they change their plans radically, you probs won't be seeing Muse in SA until 2009 at the earliest :(.

2009 is good. Long as I get to see them. Not a chance am I forking out for a return ticket to London or wherever, plus gig ticket, plus accoutrements. I'm a student, damn it. Don't have money for this kind of thing.

In either case, "won't be touring" isn't exactly a dead ringer. Half the bands who came down last year weren't otherwise touring at the time.

Members of Muselive.com and other fansites are trying to get Citizen Erased, possibly one of Muse's greatest tracks, into the charts.

This is possible by paying for digital singles on sites such as HMVDigital, iTunes and 7Digital.

You can Buy it all this week.

I think Hysteria and Time Is Running Out are both overhyped to the core by everyone, good songs but not worthy of this level of worship.

I've never heard either of those being raved about. I personally like them a lot because they each have superb basslines and Hysteria is energetic as all f*ck, but never heard much accolades going towards them.

On the other hand, Citizen Erased is a great song, but still average by Muse's standards. So many songs are better than it just on that album alone (like, say...the whole first half of the album).

I absolutely love Hysteria still, and Time Is Running Out is a great song which I have heard a few too many times. Also, seeing it live four times has made it a tad dull now.
