If metallica releases a new album, 2006 > 2005.
If they don't, then it might, only might, be a bad year. But it probably will be as equal as 2005 or better.

Yessir. That alone makes me very happy. But I don't see why 2006 should be any worse than 2005. We've got new Radiohead, Muse and Tool coming out, and most people in this forum like at least one of those three bands, I think.

Yeah, but Tool last released a new album in 2001, and Radiohead released one in 2003. Since both bands change their sound on every album, I don't think we can really tell what they're going to sound like next. Radiohead did release a new song earlier this year on the War Child compilation album, which I haven't heard yet. Apparently it was pretty good, but nothing as memorable as Lucky, which appeared on the previous compilation 10 years ago. The new Radiohead album's going to be very important for them...Kid A was their last great album, and I'd love to see a combination of The Bends and the Kid A sound, although I'd take pretty much anything.
I wasn't aware that Lateralus was that old. I'm pretty sure they're just gonna get more "ambient/progressive" (boring) though.
The only Radiohead's I really really liked were The Bends and Pablo, Honey...so I think I've heard enough from them to assume they're not gonna make a complete turnaround.

I think so, I know they're recording an EP in the near future, then a new studio album sometime next year.
I'll check their website...
Edit:
The next November Ensiferum will go to record a mini-cd, which will
include one new song and few new recordings of old demosongs. Also couple of traditional Finnish folk covers will be recorded there for the mini-cd. The Mini-cd will be released in the beginning of 2006.
So thats the EP confirmed, I can't remember where I read about a new studio album though.
2006 will be a great new tool, radiohead, portishead, wintersun and new Iced Earth!

The only big thing they've done this year is that rolling stones concert last week which was only 2 days. I mean really, I dont think they were just doing nothing for the whole freaking year. Maybe they weren't in the actual studio yet, but james must have written some sweet riffs during his jams or something. Pig Destroyer-Terrifyer came out in 2004.
And Trent Reznor was saying he's already got alot of new material down, even when With Teeth came out, he was talking about a new album in '06.
Pig Destroyer has about 4-5 splits coming out, and maybe putting all of those songs onto a CD will happen. And they also are thinking of making a DVD of one of their shows from a while back. It'll probably suck, because it should be a bootleg type video, but who cares?

2005 sucked, 2006 probably will too.

From gorguts.com:
NEGATIVA, Steeve Hurdle’s new band (Ex-GORGUTS / PURULENCE), has completed its line up: Steeve on vocals / Guitar, Luc Lemay (Ex- GORGUTS) on vocals / guitar, Dominique Lapointe on bass (QUO VADIS, AUGURY, ATHERETIC) and Etienne Gallo (AUGURY) on drums. A website is under construction and shirts will be available from GWN soon. The band should enter the studio in the winter for a promo recording. It’s all speculation right now but NEGATIVA might be touring with TOWARDS DARKNESS and PAROXYSM in the spring of 2006. More on this as things develop. Meanwhile, if you want to get in touch directly with Steeve, you can do so by e-mail at: negativ28@hotmail.com For anything concerning the band’s management, e-mail here: management@gwnrecords.com
I will release a live cd from the tour we did in 93' for EROSION....and also a DVD later in 2006 from the OBSCURA tour.
:D
New Tool should be excellent. Hopefully it lives up to Lateralus ( i don't think it will, but yeah)
And tons of other metal albums that I have forgotten about. It looks like a good year. 04 was probably the best year we'll have in a while, but 06 should be ok :)
And Cryptopsy are touring. IN AUSTRALIA! excellent.

Does anyone think that 2006 will be a bad(semi-bad) year for R&M?
In short, no.
I think 2005's been a pretty bad (or at least, not very good) year for rock and metal, which sets 2006 up to be better.

Yes, i think that 2006 will be bad, because even Arsis' new album can't save us from the crap that Tool are bound to release.

I'd love to see something by Symphony X, Iced Earth, Dying Fetus, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Testament, and Wintersun though. Then it may live up to 2005
Maiden apparently are going into the studio this spring, before releasing the album in late summer/autumn, then touring over the winter of '06-07. that's the way it worked for dance of death and i've heard that's what they're doing for the next album.
as their last album was in 2004, i'm also assuming sonata arctica will have another album out next year.

Hopefully Ginger will put something out in '06, whether it be with The Wildhearts or solo, which should keep me entertained.
Or even Silverginger 5. There was a tentative plan to do one in 2005, before it all went to hell.
New Sodom should be out by January, and the new Razor album might get pushed to January 2006 as well, so there you go. I'll have to check and see what else will be coming out.
EDIT: Ooh, new Summoning. \m/

Maybe, Protector said they're not sure when they will release the CD, it was due this year but they had trouble with recording, one of the computers in Protectors home studio crashed and they have to re-transfer all the sounds or something and that has caused the delay. I've heard talk of 2007 but am hoping 2006. :(
