does anyone know if the epiphone explorer bass sounds like thunderbird?

i think they have the same pickups and junk...so i think they would sound the same:confused:

Hell no, that's like saying Squier sounds just like a Fender. Or Rockbass just like Warwick.

Some brands put out crappier brands so people can afford them & look all cool.

It's basically the same. It's just missing something ya know ? But some people do like the sound of Epiphone better.

Same deal.

its really not...

I've never used an Explorer though, I assume they would be similar, but not the same.

I think the Explorer basses look gay though.... good guitar shape, not so good for bass.

I mean same deal as far as the Epiphone wouldn't be the same as the Gibson. I've never played either but I gotta assume they sound different, being different models.

That had nothing to do with his question though...

And, I will actually debate the Gibson/Epiphone argument too- with Gibby's current QC.

well the explorer I would imagine to sound a little diffirent but not that much.. the tone would problaby be a little thinner than the thunderbird since the body is smaller...

^^ the thunderbirds and explorers are not heavy.. they're just not right balanced.. since it has a reverse body the balance isn't right.. they're actually lighter than the jazz bass and precision :)

No way- my Thinderbird is far lighter than just about any other bass I've used, except maybe those made from ash.

Never played an explorer bass, but if its anything like the Thunderbird it'll be heavy as **** and have horrible neck-dive. Sounds great but sure as hell not the most comfortable bass to play.

Doesn't sound like you've played a Tbird either.

The neck dive is just a minor annoyance ( I moved my strap buttons just for the sake of making all my basses feel the same) and they are really light.

You are right about the sound though:thumb:

i like epiphone, my fretless is a epiphone and until a few weeks ago it was my main bass. you can make any bass sound good with the right eq

Really?

You can make any bass sound better with the right EQ, but not really all that good, if, say, the body is made of plywood

*cough* 90's Squier *cough*

I was considering buying one, but after strapping it on...I said no way. Maybe im just a big baby, but I wanted a bass thats well balanced. Thats a big reason I ended up buying the fender jazz instead.

You're actually the first person ive ever heard call the thunderbird 'light'.

Well, I now have a sick-sounding, well-constructed, well-balanced piece of machinery, now that I moved the buttons.

I actually wanted a Jazz before I played the Tbird. Then I played the Jazz again. Then I bought the Tbird:thumb:

And seriously, my Tbird is WAY lighter than a Jazz. When I get home from work tomorrow I'll weigh it (parents are asleep now) and you can weigh yours.

give me one of those and ill make it sound good to deaf kids and musicians with beyond irreperable hearing damage due to years of blasting amps as loud as they could hoping to find a dect sound and suceeding (they thought) once their hearing went.

Well, of course you could:thumb:

funny, i liked the part where you changed what i said. but IMO a good amp will make a crappy bass sound good, but a good bass wont make a bad amp sound good. *is living proof of this*

There. All fixed.

If what you had said originally was true, nobody would bother running expensive basses, they'd just run through Mesas and Thunderfunks.

LOL, dont worry about it...Id rather take your word for it I guess. Im not about to go weighing my bass to try and prove a point. Maybe the one I played was a different body wood or something. Do you have an epiphone or a gibson? Cause the gibsons are mahogany and I think the epi's are alder/maple. The one I tried was a gibson and it was damn heavy.

mesas and thunderfunks are needed ot make the bad basses sound good. my fretless sounds like **** through my pratice amp, but through my yorkville it sounds like secks on bass. my ibanez sounds like **** on my pratice amp but sounds better than my fretless on my yorkville. now you having a good bass will deffently help make things sound even better, but a crappy bass can still sound good on a good amp, not just better
