HelloA!

Well last year I did my diploma on bass and found it pretty easy at times to be honest, and thought the higher diploma would be kind of the same. Tutors also told me to leave it out and go onto degree instead, which I would have if I was 18. Anyway plans changed and as you may know I moved to liverpool with a band. But we are likely to move to London next year so I have done my application for it and heres a couple of the things I recorded for it.

The first track is an example of 16th finger-style funk. The second is an example of reggae bass. I couldnt decide whether to put up a version of Amazing Grace, Teen Town up for you lot so you can decide! ;)

I'm not 100% happy with it but I think it'll be fine, I'm sure they'll remember me aswell.

Just thought I'd post 'em to see what you thought! :)

Academy of Contemporary Music. Its in Guildford, Surrey. I don't think I'll have a problem getting on the course as I spoke to a few tutors at the end of diploma and they said I should have been doing the degree then. So its all down to how many place vacancies there are

You're joking? :amaze: I could've swore you could always listen to it if you weren't a member, can you not even stream it?

If you have msn I could transfer them to you if you're really bothered. ;)

Thank you. Yeah its not amazing, my strings are dead as ****, cant really afford new ones just at the moment :( Also I was recording it at like 5am in the morning so I couldn't have the playback very loud incase I woke someone up, so I kinda hoped for the best :p

You can apply as late and as close to September as you want, but obviously the sooner the better because the degree there gets filled up quickly. I'd go ACM over basstech personally, the faciclities are a hundred times better! Theres a new building next to it they spent millions with even more facilities (opened last year when I was there). Has like acoustic lounges and that. Pretty cool :thumb:

Yeah I was thinking that.

Do they have halls there?

The entrance exam for uni doesn't seem too bad, it'd probably be the composing side I fall down on but hey.

No they don't have halls. Theres pleanty of houses/flats and people to share with though, I shared with 3 others in a house, 2 drummers and a guitarist last year. Better than halls for a musician I think.

The thing is with ACM, if you can handle constructive criticism then you'll be fine. For instance every friday they'd do a Live Performance Workshop on a song set each week and you get up and play it with the other disciplines and then normally the tutors will have words about the band and individuals etc. If you're willing to learn and take opinions from professionals in the industry, whether you agree with them or not, you'll be fine!

I really really like the 16th note funk thing. Very nice groove. I am not really into that style of reggae bass, but I think it's good nonetheless. Choosing between amazing grace and teen town, I prefer teen town :thumb: good luck man.
