here is the deal
i have this little berhinger 15 watt amp and a left handed squier p. that is strung up right handed because i'm lame like that, but thats beside the point.
i play bass for a church so i'm needing some new gear.
i have about $500 to spend.
should i get a fender j-bass and stick with the beringer because they are almost 500
or
get a nice amp and stick with the squier. (help me decide on an amp)
or...
all new set up. (under 500 us dollars) (also help me decide)
thanks alot for any help. i dont know much about bass gear so i need it.

no recommendations on a decent combo amp at least?
Perhaps an SWR Workingman's 15 combo amp (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/482022/) for a little more?
I think JoeDaddio is selling his and he lives in cali too.

hmm....I would get a decent amp first.
Look into SWR for sure.Maybe a fender rumble of some wattage?
I would trade them both in. With that cash and an extra $500 you might be able to get a decent bass and amp.

I'd get a new amp as lon as your happy with the bass' sound... I favor Rumble 100s as I have stated in countless other threads over the SWRs...

[edit: I just read EADG's post... im in agreement with him]

if you only have a small practice amp and you gotta play for a church, wouldnt you NEED a new amp, whereas you only WANT a new bass? idk, this doesnt really seem like theres any way you could use a 15 watt practice amp to fill a room, unless the church has its own pa or amp

Get an amp over the bass since you are going to be playing at church.

I'd say amp over the bass. I've run into this paticular problem aswell. Both my amp and bass are really really bad, like BELOW entry level, but I want a new bass more, but I NEED a new amp more, because right now I can't play with other people unless it's acoustic.

A good bass will not sound good through a bad amp. A poor quality bass, however, can, with care, sounds good through a good amp.

for 500, you could probably get a pretty decent used amp. from when i was looking for my amp, i found a GK for 300, idk which model it was, but it was damned loud. i ended up getting a carvin probass 500 for $250 and a peavey 2x15" for $100, and this setup is pretty loud, the cab cant handle the wattage because its starting to rattle when turned up a lot. my point being, you can get a pretty decent setup for $500, just look at local shops and see what used gear they have, and dont just go once, go atleast once a week. turnover for equipment is fast over here

A good amp will make even a rubbish bass passable. But a rubbish amp will make a good bass sound crap.
Get the amp first !

i'd get a good/decent amp, because you only WANT a new bass
