i have an epiphone LP atm and im thinking of getting a new guitar (not that the epiphone is bad) but im wonndering whether it is worth while going for a gibson for upwards of 3 grand (AU), or to go for an ibanez which will proly cost less than 2 grand.
anyone got an opinion or some advice for me?!

Ibanez , and mod it IF you want to..play whatever model you like because if your gonna buy an instrument from 2-3 grand you have to like the feel of it...Allans are having a really big sale soon so check it out there

GEt an ibanez. Gibsons are way over priced. ibanez's are more comfortable and faster that gibsons.

try them both, they are totally different guitars, i prefer gibson however, but then again it only cost me 900 usd for a studio
I prefer Gibson over Ibanez. Though i'd rather get a Dean. How many Guitars have you played?

ive played mainly gibsons and my old aria guitar, but ive played 2 or 3 ibanez guitars and they seem a whole lot quicker than a gibson. for quicker tremelo picking, should i be looking at an ibanez?!

A standard isn't exactly a cheaper Gibson. It depends on which standard you're talking about (even then its not very cheap)...the Les Paul standard is like $2,000 usd.

i would go with a ibanez because i personally think that the gibson is over priced and you can get a good ibanez for a reasonable price.

JEMs are also overpriced.
for that money i don't expect the guitar to be bolt on neck.
i would say get a neck thru ibz and do it up.

Jems Arnt Over priced
It has High quality Dimarzio Evo Pickups which r around £120 - 150 Each Golden hardware... Edge Pro which is one of the best Floyd rose bridges (The best from ibanez) Prestige Neck and floral Fret inlay which ull never see unless its a jem neck and it has 4 scalloped frets and has Very good sustain
If Any guitar id Say Gibsons r Over Rated.. Over Priced.. And they r lacking in manufacturign quality since my friend at school baught one it was all fine then a week later the pickup went faulty on it

does your name refer to those crisps my gran would buy me before she died??
they were in shape of a bear???
i played one and i would rather a lower end ibz with my own upgrades.
(my own upgrades consitsting of EMG ZW set, EMG 20db boost, LSR roller nut and locking tuners.
all put on the ibanez rgt42dxfx.

If you're gonna get an Ibanez RG you might as well look into Yamaha RGXs. Much better guitars for the price.

not the RGT42DXFX
thats just ****ing pure quality.
it pwns lots of ibz that cost more than it, it has mahogany body and is neck thru.

Jems ARE over priced. ANYTHING that is a signature model is ussually more expensive. Although the Jem is less over priced than Gibson.

Gibsons are not 3 or 4 grand unless you want the most expensive guitar in the store, I have a Les Paul Special that I bought recently, paid $630 for it new, the studios run $1000, however I have never liked the necks on the studios. The Les Paul standards and customs run $2000 to $2500.
I have looked at the Ibanez JEM, I really like playing that guitar, its the most playable guitar I have ever played, really do some things that I can not on any other guitar, Still debating if I want to add one to my collection, when they were selling for $1700 I was serious, now that they are over $2000 I am hesitant.

I only spelt manufacturing wrong because i was typing fast. At least that was a large word, you should try to learn to spell "usually" its a basic word.

Yeah, you spelt 'are' 'bought' and 'you'll' wrong. Alot more basic than 'usually', don't you think?

You capitalize at the wrong time a lot of the time.

Laying aside pricing, the differences between Ibanez and Gibson are fundamental. There's really no reason to compare them. If the job calls for a hammer, you wouldn't go grab a hacksaw.
It's like comparing cats & dogs. If you love cats, then great, but don't expect it to catch a frisbee at the park.
I believe every guitar player should own large quantities of guitars. All shapes & sizes. Grab up as many as you can - because you can never have too many. Then, you'll have plenty to pull from in your toolbox.

I think that Ibanez are better for metal because they have thin fast necks. Most of them also come with EMGs standard. They're a lot cheaper than Gibsons (which are over priced in my opinion). Gibsons have slow necks and are too heavy for my liking.

there isnt any Ibanez that comes with EMG standards..
the cheaper models used to have power sound pickups but now have
Ibanez Infinity pickups (which r pretty good in my opinion can get an exact replicate of Steve vai tones with them)
or Ibanez Dimarzio Copy Pickups
or if they r signiture ones they have Real Dimarzio ones on some
Ibanez can play any style in my opinion

While I agree with what you said, it seems that you're one of those people who when they think Ibanez they just think RG. If you had an Ibanez S series, Artist series, , and RG series then you would have 3 very different guitars that are all from Ibanez.

What kind of spacing is that?
FYI, there are Ibanez that come stock (which is what I think you were trying to say) with EMG pickups. In fact they're ACTIVE EMG pickups.

You're right - I was thinking of the Floyd-Rose-equipped shred machines with thin tone.
In most peoples' minds, the word "Ibanez" conjures up RG models, or Jems.
But, I have certainly played a few high-dollar Gibson Les Pauls with awesome action.
Although, I've never seen a GLP with a Floyd - wouldn't that be hideous?

Ive played an lp custom that felt freaking awsome. Great action.
EVERY Ibanez I've ever had chance to play has been awful IMO. I use a Marshall 10, 30 and 50watt amp to play guitars thru (thats wat they have at the music store i go to), and to me the lower end ibanez really saturate the distortion, although they are really comfortable to play. I own a Gibson SG Special, and i tried a few guitars out, and it felt the best: thin neck, low action, the better than average pick-ups, it just sounded right to me. Although I haven't had chance to play an Ibanez Destroyer or Iceman yet, which is next for me to have a look at.
