Hi,

I've decided to drift over from the guitar forum for some advice from you guys. :)

My dad and I are thinking of getting a bass to play around with. We don't know what to look for and whats a good deal etc.

So can you guys be so helpful to reccomend some cheap but still decent bass guitars and bass amps?

Our budget is somewhere around $600CAN

Thanks :thumb:

Where are you in Canada?

If you're anywhere near Kitchener-Waterloo in Ontario, come down to Sherwood Music in Kitchener, and I'll hook you up with what you need.

If not, check out all the different starter packs. Squire pack, Ibanez Pack, Peavey, etc.

They're cheap as hell (shouldn't be anymore than 350 I'd say) and great for beginners.

how much is that in u.s.? if you're just getting a bass to mess around with look into fender squier starter package (yea i know) or ibanez makes a great starter package as well.

Well, I play guitar and I'm only really interested in using it for little jams with my old man. But who knows we may grow to really enjoy playing bass so we want something that will be decent.

if you have roughly $500 or so i'd look into Schecter or maybe a Fender Jazz/Precision.

but sadly that leaves no room for an amp

hey buddy Im in ottawa... I got my stuff at Steves Music but some of the guys there arent the best people to sell you stuff... though its probably your best bet for prices. I started off with a cheap knockoff bass and a Peavey Microbass. The amp was about 200$ and the bass was 250$. You should probably just go to the store and check out some prices.

Oh and its nice to see someone from Ottawa here :)

Cool,

I just moved back from the U.K.

My job was crap and I got kind of bored so I came back to get my high school diploma to get a better job. :thumb:

ibanez's cheap guitars are really good. Better than squires but if you want a quality bass get a Fender MIM on ebay for cheap. And One little thing bass needs more watts than guitardoes. I did once play with this cheap crate amp at guitarcenter it was like 15-30 wats or something and it was really loud. Good luck.

Whoa, how many of you live in Kitchener? I don't, but my dad grew up there...and, really randomly, so did my friend's mom (we both are American).

What are the advantages for having a 4 string, 5 string, and 6 string??

What are the strings tuned to?

edit: it just lests you have a bigger range in the notes that you can play and where the octives are. many 6+ string basses are called ERB's for extended range bass (my last name is Erb, anyone wanna buy me a gt-7?)
