Alesis has a great new series of mixers out that uses USB. I have one and it works great with Audacity on my computer. Look for them at Musician's friend or E-bay among other places. They come with built in effects too! It's the Multimix USB series.

My complaint would be that you need a laptop if you wanna gig with it, which also can mean the sounds will lag because laptops suck, making you sound out of time.

1. as long as your laptop has enough ram youll be fine.....
2. as you said you put ur mixer in the mic input thats a no no put it in the line in
3. also you dont have to run ur sound through a laptop usb mixers also will have a jack line out.

1) I have had no problems with it. I find it to be versatile and extremely easy to use. The effects are surprisingly good also.

2) As stated above, it functions like a normal mixer with stereo or mono main signal outputs for using live. I have used it live also, and it works great. It also has CD in and out, 3 band EQ for each XLR channel, pan controls, gain control for each XLR channel, etc. It does everything a regular high quality mixer does with the added benefit of being able to USB to a computer.

Not really, most laptops could handle something behing recorded, but the only problem is if you need a mono sound card! Then the laptop would be poo unless it had one then it wouldn't. Id suggest that you get one that you can create projects on get a mic record. Then use some software, Sonar 3 or 4 and play it back on that.
