Distortion

Hey all, first time poster with a quick question. I've been playing guitar for a little bit, but I'm playing some stuff that I would like to hear with more distortion. I don't have a distortion pedal so I need some help with my amp. If you can, can you tell me what to turn up, turn down, and what to put in the middle.

In case your wondering, the dials on my amp are:

level
gain
master level
low
mid
high

gain and level will give you the most distortion....but just keep playin around with it and find what tones youre lookin for

make sure the gain isnt all the way at 10, it will give you a horrible feed back if your on channel 2

What amp do you have? What kind of music are you playing? For some heavy metal distortion...

Level: Anything
Gain: 6 - 7
Master Level: Anything
Low: 4 - 6 (Enough low end but don't let the amp fart)
Mid: 4 - 6 (Until it sounds thick enough but not muddy)
High: 5 - 8 (It really depends on the amp... Just make sure it doesn't pierce your ears but it's bright enough)
