Hey guys im new to the forum and i figured this is the best place to go for advice!

I recently purchased a Ibanez Sa160QM and i'm now looking for a decent practice amp. My style of music isn't going to be hardcore.. example, the hardest ill play is gonna be similar to Smashing Pumpkin's - Zero

I looked around and i figured my price range is about $200 give or take, so:

- Marshall MG15DFX
- Line6 Spider II 15
- Fender 15R frontman
- Roland Cube

I'm interested in your opinions so please don't flame other people's. Thanks!

Whatever

that's a nice lookin' guitar. How well does the trem stay in tune? I think that the Fender and the Marshall are out of the question, the other two are so much more versatile. Have you checked out the Vox AD15VT (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guitar/search/detail/base_id/112940)? It's what I have and it's simply great.

I can't say about the Marshall - people have slammed them lately, but I have no experience at all w/it. I have heard good things about the Line6 and Roland cube. I have played on a Frontman - this particular one buzzie and noisey.

The VOX someone suggested is nice too, but if I could swing it I would go for the VOV AD30VT ($240) as it has an attenuator type control (not on the 15) that allows you to play at low power, and get a "tube breakup" sound.

Try them out if possible, these amps are quite different. The Fender is quite basic solid state, the Cubes and Line6 are ss as well. The VOX is a hybrid (combo ss/tube). The Cubes Line6 and VOX have quite a bit of modeling stuff that you may or maynot like. Have fun!

I'm gonna say check out the vox cube and the spyder. I'm a big fan of the cube myself.

Just one other thing. I know I suggested the VOX 30 when you were asking for a 15 W, but with the additional control you can play low (2w if you want) and get the sound you want. One more (sorry) thing - it may seem like a lot now, but $40 or $50 to get the amp you want (whatever that ends up being)is worth it in the long run. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

One quick question tho:

Do you know which amp lets u/doesn't let u put in pedals?

You can use pedals with any amp. Do you mean which ones have an effects loop?

I have a Line 6 Spider II 15. It's really good. Do you mean foot controllers that changes your channels?

as u can tell, im pretty damn noob at electric. as far as i know, i thought a foot pedal makes a distorted/wah etc. sound when u press down on it and then returns to clean when ur foot is off it?

Peavey Rage 158 is the way to go.

I'd stay away from the 15r. i own one, and compared to other similarly priced amps that i've played, it gets blown away.

Roland Cube by far.

The MG series is the devil, it will steal all your tone and possibly your soul.

Cube definitely.

An SA160QM was supposed to be my guitar hehe but I decided to get my Jackson DXMG. <3 <3

I remember the SA was cool though.

I'd say go with the Roland Cube. I have the Cube 30, and it's a great sounding amp that is versatile enough to let me play tons of different types of music. I'm really happy with it, and I'm sure the Cube 15 would be just as good.

Check out a review of the Cube 15 here...

Yea, pretty much, that's what it is. Try reading this, it might help.

Definitely the Roland Cube. Try to go for the 30 watt though, it has some pretty quality effects built into it.

Go for the cube. Not sure how much the 15 watt costs, but i got a cube 30 for AU$600, probably the best money i ever spent too, so if you can afford the extra cash, go for the 30

EDIT: Forgot to mention, look at the official website for proper info (i don't know it, just google it), but the cube 30 has 6 modeled amps, 4 effects, delay and reverb, the cube 15 has a little less than that, and the cube 60 has a little more

Looks like the majority of people here are cube lovers (and marshall haters!) :-) Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm gonna have to get my guitar and go to the shop and test out ALL the amps before purchase and then i'll make a decision.

edit: Ok so i went to the guitar shop and played on all the amps and i found the differences between the 15-watt's minimal. I got the Marshall amp off ebay only because it was cheap $140 (including shippin) new-in-box and i'm broke as it is.

However, when i do go and upgrade to a larger amp (this is inevitable), i'll NOT go for a marshall amp.. probably go check out the Spider one.

Thanks again for the help guys!

I'd go cube or vox. Spider is really only suited for metal IMO. Someone was talking about the volume control on the back. It is nice, but it seems like a lot of people on here make it seem like its a real godsend. With only one tube, it doesn't make that much of a difference to me. Just a tiny bit more crunch.

dude i totally agree with you on this one. i have the AD30VT but ive played on the 15 and its by far better than any other amp ive played. it has that classic british tone and theres a butt-load of options
