Could anyone suggest some easy ska songs?

its not about your upstroke, but about your timing. just about all ska music is played on the off-beat (ie not with the click of the metronome, but inbetween clicks)

A lot of ska songs are easy, maybe Common Rider. Try Classics Of Love, it's not exactly ska buts it has mos of the basics and can get you started.

40 Ounces to Freedom by Sublime is very easy, a great starting point., it's like G, C, D over and over. With a nice smooth and relaxed rhythm.

Beer by Reel Big Fish would be a good second step.
Am, F, C, G. A bit faster and a more complex rhythm. A little solo and lead guitar break here and there to keep you on your toes.

Superman by Goldfinger is a good one too. It combines once again a more complex rhythm and faster chord changes.

Also try:
Vixen by Millencolin.
All Outta Angst by NOFX.
Hey Ska by the Suicide Machines (or Area 7).
The Impression That I Get by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
What Happened to You by The Offspring.

Keep at it and you'll get it.
Have fun.
