This is probably a really stupid question, but is there any way to tell what gauge strings are without the package? My problem is that the guitar I'm using still has the strings that came with it when I bought it. I think they're REALLY comfortable and I'm very happy with them. The thing is that I'm gonna need to replace them eventually, and I'm not sure what gauge they are. If anyone can help, it will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Not really no. Unless you have a professional who has handled strings alot and could feel them and give a guess. Apart from that no there isnt.

Purchase an expensive micrometer.
Just kidding.
How do you know what brand they are?

Yes. If you do have a micrometer, or you have access to one, or a digital caliper you CAN measure them.
