This is probably a really stupid question, but is there any way to tell what gauge strings are without the package? My problem is that the guitar I'm using still has the strings that came with it when I bought it. I think they're REALLY comfortable and I'm very happy with them. The thing is that I'm gonna need to replace them eventually, and I'm not sure what gauge they are. If anyone can help, it will be much appreciated. Thanks.

well, if they are really easy to bend ( and i mean like fish line) they're probably extra lights

A really accurate ruler? . . .
If you got the guitar in a package they are probably 9s but if it is Les Paul/SG style they are probably 10s

Go to the manufacturers website and see what they reccomend for strings on that model thats most likely what it is equipped with

I know that on the ESP manual it specifies what string gauges they put on their guitars from the factory, but if its the same with most other companies its likely that they're 9-42s. I imagine that they are, seeming as you find them "comfortable".

probably 9-42s like hades2 said, but have you ever tried any other guage? it could be that you haven't tried any other guage, so know not what is comfortable, just what you are used to.
i changed my strings from 9s to 12s & now 9s feel queer

If you can get hold of one try using a micrometer. These are very accurate but you will need to convert from metric measurements to imperial
