Ok, So this may work if people are helpful.
The purpose of this thread is obviously clear, and there are threads which appear asking for what this lyric is and what that lyric means. So I have made a thread. In which if you are confused by the lyrics of a certain song, then you post a request here. Along with hepling out your fellow MXicans, I feel this thread would bring users closer toegther, in terms of their musical influences.
This Thread is not for;
1. Asking the name of a band, and what it means.
2. How you would sing a certain song.
3. debating who is the best lyricist ever.
Now, if this thread is used properly, and people are helpful and patient then it should work. :thumb:
Also, If you want to simply analyse the lyrics of a song, feel free.

Great Idea, the discussion should hopefully pick up later on when more of te regulars get on; you made this thread rather early. I've analyzed the song Time by Pink Floyd before (you can find many more analysis' by various users here (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=412329)) I've also analyzed Stairway before, just at my house. If you'd like me to do this again, perhaps I could because of got time, but only if you really want it.

This is a cool idea, it seems like there's always some lyrics I need help deciphering.
I'd be interested to see the Stairway analysis, DMV.

I've been led to believe the Stairway lyrics are about a woman who is really rich but can take none of her riches to heaven with her. I'm probably wrong.

The lyrics are about nothing, really. Even Robert Plant admits that.

I was just kinda throwing them out there for you, but it would be nice to have Pushit explained, if possible. Eulogy would be a good one to write about.

ANyone know what Seek and Destroy by Metallica is about?
Someone explain Orange Crush by R.E.M. and they win life.
Also, NightHorse.
If you knew already, in the Vietnam war, the U.S. soldiers would go on Search & Destroy missions. Whereby, a Vietnamese village was raided, and everything was destroyed.
I think that Seek & Destroy is using that as a metaphor, but putting it into the context of going out on the pull.
I think :-\

The use of agent orange in the Vietnam war
Seek and destroy is another "Metallica as a kickarse force coming to get you" song, like most of Kill 'em all.

Eulogy: It seems obvious that Maynard is using the crucifixion of jesus and his matyrdom as a metaphor. What for I'm not etirely sure. I'll look further into these and post them asap.

Ok I know that nobody asked for this in the thread, however i have seen many posts bashing system for the lyrics of byob, and i happen to like the meaning behind the lyrics and i'm just going to explain my take on the song---
SOAD - B.Y.O. B. (Bring Your Own Bombs)
WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR?!
"Barbarisms by Barbaras
With pointed heels"
Atrocities commited by "Barbaras with pointed heels" I'd say this line basically means people you wouldn't expect to do horrible things will
"Victorious victories kneel
For brand new spankin' deals"
Soldiers returning home victorious still kneel to the gov. awaiting their awards (brand new spankin' deals")
"Marching forward hypocrite and
Hypnotic computers"
Not really too sure on this bit to be honest
"you depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth"
the government depends on the peoples protection but only tells them lies
"lalalalalalala lala"
I'm sure this has a very deep meaning, i just can't discern what it is:rolleyes:
"Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine"
The chorus and one of the most heavily criticized lines--it gives the idea that war is being compared to a party--and in the end it will be the end of everything
"Kneeling roses disappearing into
Moses' dry mouth"
Very awesome line in my opinion--kneeling roses represent mourning--kneeling down and putting a rose on the coffin--moses' dry mouth is the middle east--where the soldiers are dieing hence the roses are disappearing there
"Breaking into Fort Knox stealing
Our intentions"
Simply means that the government will stop at nothing to "our intentions" I'm guessing that would mean our peaceful intentions
"Hangers sitting dripped in oil
Crying freedom"
a reference to the oil rich middle east---not to sure on anything else
"Handed to absolution
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth"
Reference to an earlier line--handed to absolution means to me more or less sent to death
"Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine"
{x2}
"Blast off
It's party time
And we don't live in a fascist nation
Blast off
It's part time
And where the **** are you?"
pretty obviously---the war has started the comparison to a party continues--"and we don't live in a fascist nation"---i believe that is a quote from Stalin--comparing the US to the USSR.---not sure if it was stalin--it was a dictator however----"And where the **** are you?" well i take this as being another more forceful recruitment add, like the comparison of war to a party"
"Where the **** are you?
Where the **** are you?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor? x4"
pretty obvious---while its a silly idea that the president would actually fight in the war, they believe that war itself is a silly idea
"Kneeling roses disappearing into
Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox stealing
Our Intentions
Hangers sitting dripped in oil
Crying freedom
Handed to absolution
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth"
"Everybody's going to the party
have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine
Everybody's going to the party
have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sun
Where the **** are you?
Where the **** are you?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?"
"Why do they always send the poor? x6
They always send the poor x2"
So each line does have a meaning---probably even the ones i don't understand (or at least i hope so) and its not just meaningless crap. Every line paints a picture of a possible future for the world if things really go to hell.so if any of that is unclear, which it probably is please ask me to elaborate on the specific point that is a problem :)

And the title is a pun on the frat boy abbreviation BYOB, meaning Bring Your Own Booze. Suggesting that George Bush think's it's a party. Hence the "Blast off, it's partytime."

good point--i forgot to mention that one any idea on the
"Marching forward hypocrite and
Hypnotic computers" bit?
shamed-angel
11-20-2005, 12:02 PM
I think when it says "Marching forward hypocrite" that it's implying that the army are 'marching forward' but that war in general is a step back. That these people are "fighting for peace" when all they bring is death and destruction.
I'm not sure about the other bit. I'll figure it out though.

Anyone know what Mordecai by Between the Buried and Me is about?
[Day one] Asleep mid-sentence- the words fell apart. No one is listening
anyway. This day will soon turn black and my "wants and needs" will spill
on my burning ashes. I learned to be selfish today...I learned to be
alive. These things I care for are for my personal gain and my person
happiness only. Why should I sit in your chairs and satisfy your
standards. I've done it all before and I've confused myself a thousand
times. The tragic day that I call morality just doesn't do it for me
anymore. No more choices, just standing in the cold. The day will turn
black and I will have either lived or died. Asleep mid-sentence- my words
fall to the ground. Swept into this dreamland. Economic satisfaction,
never succeed. But happiness has its place. Justice will not lie in your
corner. New day towards death, only compassion for my own needs make my
need necessary.
[Day two] Throw myself in the corner; I have nothing to complain about
here. A tragic day seems too peaceful to most, spoiled ambitious turned
my heart to black. I'm figuring out this realization process- the process
to never look upon bitter ground. Living dreams, loving dreams, awakening
to what I've always dreamt of. The familiar sound of lovely love from the
love of my life will keep the notes coming. From the reciting of the
show, from the plip and the shevanel, from the grind that annoys, and the
sarcasm, they all hate...forever I worship. I'll kill, love, and hate for all of you.
Thank you for the best part of my life.

You're not from the U.K are you. Mr Men is a series of books by a lady namerd Roger Hargreaves. Classic childrens books. Collect them all and it says "My Mr Men Library" on the side.
Iron Maiden stole the idea. :(
