Hey guys, Firstly i want to say i have tried a search and reading other threads and still havn't found what i'm looking for so if it has been posted before could someone please just link me it and not flame me, I don't feel much like burning.
I've been playing drums for about 6-7 years. Only really nuckled down in the last 2 years though. I've already gone from playing heel down to heel up and its given me more Power and versatility.
But now i've been looking at the more advanced bass drum tecniques, Originaly, I'd only heard of heel toe, but after read the forums and watching some vids on it i've found the slide technique which looks like a promising alternative.
I've tried both on the drums and havn't favoured either so I was woundering if anyone could tell me the Pro's and Con's of One Technique over another, As I don't really feel like perfecting both ;).
Cheers guys.
Be gentle.

i like the slide technique... is it my vid that you watched? if not here it is:

cant really think of any pros or cons of slide over heeltoe except that i think it is easier and heeltoe hurts my shins.
Slide is not as popular now a days.
There are other techniques besides those 2 as well. You should check out the different ones, listen to your body and decide on what works best for you.
any examples of other techniques?
and Breakster, how is your pedal tension in that clip?

i am pretty much in the same position as the threadstarter.
have been playing a lot of drum and bass type stuff and it has kind of thrown the fact that i need to get a fastr foot in my face.
i have been switching between heel te and slide while i practice to find which would be better.
i am better with the slide technique but it seems that heel toe would be faster when playing doubles that are closer together (2 sets of doubles that are a 16th note apart).
it is hard to tell since i have not mastered either, and i am kind of leaning towards slide since i am better at this at the moment. but i feel slide is a little cumbersome when playing tightly spaced groups of doubles.
anyone else feel this way?
what pro players use slide?
does anyone use slide on a double pedal? seems heel toe dominates the double-bass world.
I know Jojo Mayer and Jeff Porcaro use/ have used it.

I have been working on heel-toe and I have found it to not sound all that good. I find the first hit is quite loud, and the second one, which is mostly just a bounce, is quite a bit more quiet. I may be doing them wrong, but that's what i've found. :thumb:

Yeah, that's the stage where I'm at. I've been playing heel up for about 4 years and have got to a stage where I can play fast, powerful and quite well controlled but it tires me out too quickly. I'm working on heel down a bit to strengthen the second heel-toe hit.
I've got a GREAT exercise if you want to speed up heel down chops though:thumb: :
Stand up and balance on the balls of your feet, lower your heel to the floor but don't touch the floor and raise your heel again.
Repeat this exercise 50-100 times in a row, it might help to lean slightly onto a wall to keep balance and concentrate on the exercise.

its not really that tight. loose enough to rock back and forth a bit, but i think i should tighten it a little as it feels a wee bit unresponsive lately.

Heel Toe or Slide?
i use both depending on the situation.
whichever technique gets me the intonation i want is what i use at that time.

i use the slide technique. it just sort of happened too...
i was not really getting the hang of heel-toe that well and then slide technique just started working almost out of nowhere.

Love heel-toe, can't do slide. Doesn't seem natural to me...
Not really important, but Dom Famularo uses the slide technique when he plays... it's rather impressive when done on a dbl pedal.
And playing heel-down definetely helps with getting power in the second h/t hit.
