I've never used it myself. But shouldn't this be in gear and media, or beginner...definetely not advanced.

sorry dude mean to put this in the above statement^^^ do u ONLY rinse them off? or do you use a rag as well?
i wouldnt use any kind of cleaner. warm water and reg hand soap works just as good if not better. make sure you dry extra good.

I cleaned my cymbals once with some lemon juice mix my teacher gave me. I've heard testaments that the grime adds character to your cymbal sound and you shouldn't bother cleaning them. Sure they will look bad but it sounds like there might be some wisdom to the grime. I'm gonna try it out :thumb:
if they are traditional finish then dont bother cleaning them unless they are like really messed up like have a whole bunch of buildup on it and stuff. trads sound better dirty. If they are brilliant though id suggest cleaning them at least a bit. ^^^

Yeah, i agree, unclean cymbals sound better. Although, i've found that clean cymbals can sound better for rock/metal ect. But i'm mainly a jazz player s im more inclined to go with the darker tone that uncleaned cymbals tend to have.

I agree.
I wonder, is there any good way to make your cymbals dirtier faster?
I think someone once suggested soaking bronze in urine would make it age.
But then again, that's not really the same thing as dirt and grime on the cymbals.
Still, can anyone validate that? hahaha
Makes you wonder about those pre-aged Zildjians now huh?:chug:

i dont clean my cymbals, i still have the B8 i had when i started drumming and it sounds a helluva alot better then when i bought it brand new. but i have two seprate sets of cymbals i use, one for shows and the ones i practice on. i softly brush the ones i play for shows with damp towel. the ones i practice on are left alone, its ZXT and they sound better then brand new due to grime buildup and the what not.

I rarely "polish" my cymbals. I just try to keep the real dirt away, and if they're really dirty, some hot water and mild soap does the trick. (ofcourse I make sure they're dry after i`m done)

I've found hitting it lots helps, i know a guy who buried his old ride and crash in the ground for two weeks, and they sound sweet now, also, i know a guy who smothered his constantianople ride in tomato sauce, to make it sound darker.....

some old british lady on some cleaning show used steak sauce on a dude's cymbal to clean it, it worked cause the acid cut out the grime....i know this is not relevant, but....w/e

Yeah, my old band teacher always told me never to clean the cymbals, the more age on them the better they get, and for the most part, he was right.

is steel wool good on cymbals? i used that and some car wax that i found at the L.A. Auto show, is that bad? and i don't think i'll clean them again because i can't do the labels at all which makes them look retarded. and it's really uneven because i'm lazy.
and i've never gotten groove juice to work. i have some sabian cleaner but i don't know what it's called. it turned my hi-hat pink... but then after a couple days it was normal again.

Steel wool is a stupid idea with cymbals. It scratches the metal.

I hope i got here in time. If you are using sabian cymbals, dont spray groove juice and leave it on. I did the same that and my logos said goodbye. Im not sure if its same for zildjian cymbals or paiste etc but groove juice sure does eat away at sabian logos. If you are gonna use groove juice, spray a bit on on one small section of the cymbal and wipe it off straight away in a circular motion, kind of like polishing your cymbals. It'll leave your cymbal shiny and looking new and wont eat away at your logos.
