I want to know what you guys prefer...triggers or mics? i want triggers because you can make the drums sound however you want but I dont like the sound of my drums normally. I can never tune them to sound the way I want them to sound. Do you guys use triggers, mics or do you balance the triggers with the mics? Please help

you can't really compare these. It's pretty much 2 completely different things. When playing live, micing the kit is going to add to your volume, where as triggers do this, but will also add effects.
I would say mics, there's nothing better than a nice natural sounding kit. That and you always have to be careful of accidental triggering.

would you trigger your whole drumset? would thst judt be an electric kit?
some people trigger just the bass drum.
im like the sound of a regular drum. you can do a few things with mic placement to get diff sounds out of a kit too.
i would say go with mics. and then you could add an electric pad or two if you want some triggered sounds. seems more flexible. they will sound better in the end too....i cant imagine a triggered tom to sound very good.

One word...
Dynamics
Mics are WAY better than triggers IMO. They just make things sound unnatural.

You say you can make your drums sound any way you want with triggers? You are totally limited by what's in your module! Yes you can edit sounds to some degree, but you'll always sound just like any other Roland or Alesis module ultimately. Triggers always sound fake to me. On top of that, you lose control of dynamics. Learn to tune your drums and get good mics.

Listen to bill ^ He's right.
I enjoy electronic drums and e-kits but you just can't replace the sounds of a real drum. Mic em up and play.
In an ideal world, I would trigger to COMPLIMENT my mic sound only.
