I noticed I'm like bipolar with my drumming motivation. I go through periods it's ALL I want to do. Then there's some weeks I'll only play once, or twice. It's pretty low right now...last week at lesson he said I was like the farthest along (out of all his students), and we started working on a song but this week I don't know. He didn't act like I did HORRIBLE, but I messed up some things...and it was only a week and stuff, it didn't really bother me but still. Then today I played, and my double bass SUCKED (I'm not that great but it was bad) and I tried playing to another song, and I kept getting frustrated/dispointed. Plus it sounded nothing like the song(I know because the recordings sound alot different plus better drums/cymbals but still) It just sucks...help me outt I really wanna play..

About double bass, this is something that really goes up and down a bit in the beginning. One day you'll be able to do fast and steady beats you didn't earlier, and then some days later it might not work that well. But when you have practiced enough to reach "the next level" you'll notice that you can pretty much have a 2 week break not playing at all, and then when you sit down and play again you'll notice you haven't lost any of the speed/control. That's how it worked out for me anyways, got a little frustrated when I sometimes seemed to stop making progress or even take a step backwards with my double bass skills, but I just practiced hard and now I'm at the same level even after a couple of weeks while I didn't play.

So, hang in there, keep practicing a lot, you'll have a breakthrough and then it'll be much more fun to play, realising all the stuff you can do, and develop even further! :thumb:

everybody goes through, when you get frustrated get up and walk away. Go do something else for awhile. Then after you've cooled down (you might even want to leave it a lone for a few days...) try. For hte lack of motivation find something new to work on every so often, spice it up and then let there be times where you just jam. I've found working on my rudiments lately has helped a lot, i don't get as frustrated when i'm on the set (when i'm allowed to play) and it gives me something to play when i want to but can't. Just find your own thing and do it. You're not the only one who has gone through this

yeah check out some new music. in fact, if you haven't been playing very long (as it sounds), start listening to some old favorites that you haven't heard in a while.. maybe that's a bit harder for you considering your age (my "old favorites" were when I was about your current age, 10 years ago)...but listening to some of the old stuff I grew up REALLY motivated me a lot. I was hearing the same, familiar music that defined so much of my life at that period, but this time it was like an entirely knew experience since I could actuallly HEAR the drums and understand the rhythm like I was never able to before I'd started drumming.

hope that makes sense.

This is just like Focker The Lopper's "Bad Day" thread. Just take a break and do something else. Just relax and take a day off or possibly even more. Once you go back to the set you'll feel refreshed and want to play and you will feel more motivated and more than likely accomplish more than you were previously :thumb:
