Man i was just sitting here and was thinking about the times i had had with my old band. i was remebering my first gig and was wondering if anybody was wiklling to share stories of thier first gigs.
My first gig started out as a recital from my guitar lessons. i had jsut started a band with a couple of my friends one who plays drums and one i taught bass. we were only allowed to play a few songs so we chose 3 simple ones: Green Day - Warning, Nirvana - Smells like a Teen Spirit, and one i can't remember ( this was like 3 years ago so give me a break) any one these two stand out better in the story.
when we first got out there we had the stage lights beaming down on us and as you all know are ****ing hot as hell. i'm sweating like a pig and since our original singer chickened out on us i had to sing Warning. apparently i didn't do that bad despite how bad i really am at singing. all i got was a little heckiling from the Jocks in the back, not much. then came Nirvana.
Now, my sister and her freind were set up to sing this song. good singers but when you **** off half the time for practice, then you will have a hard time remembering lyrics. the instrumentals went fine but the stupid drummer sped up, the singers were out of key, and to top it all off they forgot the words (obviously). butchered but not defeated. we played more gigs until we broke up last summer.
if anyone has some stories to share taht'd be cool.

^Haha
Looking back on my band's first show, which was about a year ago, it sucked. At the time I might have been being optimistic or I might have been serious, but I thought it was awesome. The only songs I remember playing were Never Had So Much Fun by Frenzal Rhomb and You by Bad Religion, both of which I think went ok.
My friend had taped the show on my video camera and I remember watching it and thinking how terrible a singer I was, I'm a little more on key now but back then I sucked hard.
Anyway usually after shows people you know from the crowd come up and say how excellent you were, so when one of my friends forced out that we were "pretty good!" I kinda knew that we sucked.
We don't practise much nowadays, but we've played 3 shows since that one, one of which was more disastrous than the first one, and two that kicked arse.

we played our first gig on saturday actually, i specially organized this band for this gig alone, so it's nothing long-term. We covered Universal Mind by Liquid Tension Experiment, with me on guitar, we did very well for a first gig and barely any mistakes.

i got a gig this wednesday for playing drums, but sadly i havent even practiced with one of the bands i am paying with yet.... I mean, i should be able to improvise alright, but still the whole idea makes me a bit nervous. The whole thing is pretty relaxed, and I am playing with a few different bands that night (no one plays drums here) so maybe it will go ok.

2 days ago. We've only been a band for 3 weeks, but I think we're pretty good. There was about 60 people there. We had strobe lights and all on while we were playing which was pretty cool. We flew through the 7 songs we had in about 12 minutes and then people were asking for another song but we didnt have one so we just played one we already did. The show was with 3 other punk bands and a pretty good death metal band. We're trying to get on a show for this weekend too.

my bands first gig was a little less than a year ago, but it wasnt really a gig, cause it was like a battle of the bands type thing with all the bands of the school, but bands didn't battle..we just played. it was really awsome, we played a couple more school shows, and our first outside school show is january 14th with all the ska bands from ottawa

I played my first gig at a multi-culturalism fair thingy my old high school put on like two years ago. Everyone hated us. I didn't even know what I was doing, we had a trumpeteer(?) who played the same note constantly, and our drummer played nothing but the same beat. It was great.

I played my first gig in my band (rotten luck) only to friends in a pub function room last month, we were supporting a purely punk rock band, who were much better than us. But cos we played dub n ska and they just played the same good noise, the non punks got bored and liked us more!
Going to do another soon, with my mates band called 'Little Jimmy and the Big Knobs'

i played my third gig ever saturday. we have been practicing for a long time and played a gig on halloween, but this gig was amazing. our band has been around for a while, but i was in texas at the time (we are located in nashville, tn), so they were crappy. everybody was expecting a ****tybut fun little hardcore band. instead we gave them really fast crossover like a mix of Bad Brains, DRI, Leftover Crack, and touches of Iron Maiden from the guitarists cos we have taken inspiration from them in our solos. we got a great applause cos a lot of people came and were surprise by us. we played all originals except for a cover of Napalm Death's "You Suffer", which is easily the shortest song ever. I introduced it while we had a blaze of feedback going and acted like it was gonna be some big song and then we played all 1 second of it and people just stood there for about 10 seconds and then realized it was over. we had a friend subbing in on bass, who did pretty good, but our last song we played without him cos we didnt have enough time to teach him. everyone said it was our best, which i think is because it was created from all of us together. no one else played with such speed or originality the rest f the night. the obscene played though, and they can top anyone, and did. but it was quite a good gig for being my third and our second guitarists 1st.

First gig was at a skate park opening for Youth Brigade and Missing 23rd. December 1996. It was mostly originals, but we covered Total Chaos - Boot Party. We played for about 2 more years, put some crap out and broke up. It was called no one's victim.

My first show was so bad. I had only been playing drums for about 3 weeks, so me and some friends decided to jam. The next day (which was a Monday) my friend tells me that we were opening for some ****ty Taking Back Sunday wannabe band at a Christian venue that Friday. So we had a week to write
some songs. We covered Halloween by The Misfits and wrote one of our own. We did so bad, the band was making fun of us.
We were called The Lunch Ladies
I think we broke up like a week later.

Gorezilla.
It was at a library in Red Hill, Pa which is near Quakertown.
My first gig was playing guitar for my friends' band last March. Their guitar player had screwed up nerves in his wrist, so I got to play. We only jammed once, the night before so we played mostly covers. Some parts were really sketchy (I didn't know how to play "holiday in cambodia", but we did anyways), but some of it was awesome (mostly originals, and six pack). It was a battle of the bands, so none of us really cared; one of our songs was music already made, and the singer reading out a list of all the things our friend Joe hates (mostly other people in the crowd). The highlight of the night was when we semi-covered the "Laplante Song" by Propagandhi. If you've never heard it, it's "The only good fascist is a very dead fascist" but the yell at each other instead of singing the actual words. They turned the mics off because we were swearing too much.
My first was just in September, with MDC (Millions of Dead Cops), a good pop punk band from Milwaukee, WI, and a really good local band. We're a hardcore/punk band we played 5 originals and a Minor Threat cover, we were goin nuts and the crowd was really getting into it. The venue was as packed as I have ever seen it and usually its only like 30 kids, because I live in Dubuque, IA. So over all it was really good and im deffinately happy with it.

My first gig was a bit of a disaster. The other two in my band had experience of giging before, but it was my first time playing drums on my own (had been part of a pipe band playing the drums before)
The start of the gig went OK, but mid-way through the second song the bass drum started rolling away (wasn't on the carpet properly). got it fixed for the second last song, then on the last song we did a really long ending with a drum solo at the end. (thinking back to it, it was just me playing as fast as I could around the kit).
Playing tonight aswell, and playing all our own stuff like usual.

My first gig was the saturday in the weekend before halloween. It was insane. We told like half the kids at school and got everyone all hyped up.
When the day came only about half the kids we asked came and some we didnt even ask. Our band had been together for probably about 6 or 7 months and we never really thought about playing for people until now. We have me, a guitar player/singer, my friend an insane drummer/good bass player/singer and my other buddy who is an ok bass player/drummer when my other friend plays bass. We had been practicing a frickload for this and when the time came to play we rocked out loud. My parents even enjoyed the show. We played songs like Rancid's, Poison and Journey to the End of East Bay, Alkaline Trio's Cooking Wine, Blue Carolina, Stupid Kid, and Armaggedon, We also played Killercrush by Millencolin. Blitzkrieg Bop was also on the list of course. After we finished all our friends wanted to hear more and wondered when and where we were going to play again. I think were playing a fundraiser sometime soon or possibly for a dance. But untill then our band will continue to practice and hopefully not break up!

My first gig sucked. We played for a dance and no one there really was listening. They were more like, "What the hell is this loud noise?" I could tell that pretty much no one there liked any type of rock. And my friend's drum kit kept sliding forward, which forced me to stand in one place whilst playing guitar and keep my foot in front of the bass drum to help prevent it from sliding forward. But all in all, it was still a pretty cool experience.

I played my first gig a week ago with my band National Distraction at a battle of the bands at a skating rink. Funny thing every band there was at least four years older than us and we got over half the votes. My band is going to the finals in two weeks and I plan on winning that too.
