the strings that came with my bass were great, they lasted me for at least a year they prlly would hav lasted longer except i started experimenting with the tunings of the strings and one day two of them just broke, so i went and since i didnt hav much money i bought some 12 dollar strings, not sure of the brand, and they lasted for about a month, i did the odd tuning with them everynow and then and the coil around the G string broke while playing with my friend, i was like well those were some cheap strings so i should prlly just wait for a little while and then go buy some better ones, well friday i went and bought D'Addario XL5 Nickel Round Wound strings, super soft gauge, and i put them on the next day and started playing with them and i liked was really liking them but i didnt do any of the weird tunings and then i was playing with a pick last night and the gstring broke, maybe i shouldnt hav gotten super soft, but i would like some suggestions on strings that wouldnt break if u used a pick, especially on the first day?

thx in advance

Where exactly are the strings breaking? If they break down by the bridge saddles, you may want to check to see if you have any sharp spots hidden down there.

not really sure about the parts of the bass, and i cant remember about the strings that originally came with it, but the last two were in the same place just about, it was down along the place that the strings rested on, not around the tuning pegs, watever u call them, but wear u put them in, i dont think there are any sharp things down at that spot considering that it is smooth at the area

I'd double check, just to make sure. If two sets both broke on the saddle, chances are there is a little bur hiding down there. If you do find one there, you can just take a file and gently file it away.

ok, there seems to be a little dent in the saddle that looks like it might hav been made by strings, i could tell if there was a bur in there but there just might be, i will get a file and file it down, and i am thinking of getting a new bass just because the one i hav is a good beginner bass but other than that it is a piece of junk,if u hav any suggestions that would be appreciated, i am looking for a five string that is under 350

You should probably save and get something better, otherwise its just another starter bass really at that price.
