probably use automotive to make it white and a epoxy layer on that..

do you think it will work on a fretted?

I guess it would, if you really wanted it to, but it would be much more difficult.

^indeed it would...

do i have to worry about my inlays while staining?

but wouldn't the tape also cover up some wood, thus, leaving unstained spots?.... unless i can somehow manage to get the tape exactly around the inlays ... wish me luck with that...

and with the grain raising.. do i just take some water, and dabble it over the fretboard and let it soak it up then sand? im not real sure on it..

if you get circles of masking tape and make them slightly bigger than the inlay, then there would be a ring of colour which is the same as the old wood, then the inlay, i think that would look sweet.

remove the frets and do it if you want a really good finish, then stick them back in.

if you just mask of the inlays by covering them with masking tape just big enough so it covers them, then fine trimming it down using a sharp blade (carefully) you should get it to look as if the inlays were placed into the "ebony" rather than the other way around (id reccomend standard masking tape, but with a stronger adhesive as opposed to the low-tack stuff youd usually use for fretboard work.

as for the body there are many options... there a laquer finishes you can buy to spray on, alternatively use a stain or paint and laquer or epoxy on top of that... (just read around on project guitar see what you like)
