So the local Music Go Round has a Behringer BX4500H Ultrabass Bass Head on sale for 130 bucks, in basically brand new condition. Do any of you all have any experience with them?

General consensus is that they are highly unreliable, though a few people really like them.

I use that head through an Ashdown 4x10 cab.

Plenty of volume. The tone isn't anything amazing, but it isn't bad either. There are definitely nicer heads out there, but for the price I find it unbeatable. Especially for $130. I paid $200 for mine and I think it was well worth it.

Can't comment much on reliablility since I've only had it a couple months, but it's done everything I've needed thus far.

Hit or miss :)

Check them out if you buy one. Play over the one YOU get and then decide.

I played a BX3000T (the 300w version) for about a year in a metal band and it never let me down. The tone of my new amp is far superior but for the price I don't think I could have found anything as reliable and usable (I needed enough power to get over a metal drummer and 2 guitarists).

I'm just saying, in general, when you have people being honest, most of the stories invlolve B-ingers not being reliable.

I haven't used one enough to comment.

Coming from someone who hasn't "used enough to comment".

I, however, HAVE used one enough to comment, and it's perfectly suitable, especially for the price. The unreliable behringer products are their combo amps... none of their other products have real common reliability issues.

Thank you.

I've been enjoying my BX3000 head for months now and it's never had a problem. I personally really like the tone through my Avatar cab and I thought it sounded pretty good in the store playing through the aluminum cone cab. It's a little strange, I like the Behringer cabs when the Behr head is connected but other heads make them sound a little farty.

The only thing I'd consider replacing it with is going to cost me over $700 (unless I find one used)

Lousy tone to be honest. Played an active 5-string Ibanez and an american P-bass through it and both sounded pretty dull and flat. However, if the thing works I guess you cant really go wrong for $130 bucks. Just dont expect it to sound like a pro amp.

Poor tone, poor reliability... Go Ashdown instead, I learnt the hard way

Haven't used enough to comment on reliability- it only takes a few minutes to discover the sound sucks.

Besides- they are a cheaply made Ashdown Mag300. Illegal copy, I might add. And the MAG300 has reliability issues, so a cheaper version is bound to.

Ohan, and I have heard the Bass V-amp sucks too. Avoid!

The B3000T and the other Ultrabass heads tend to be pretty meh, but seeing as it's cheap, it's hard to go wrong I suppose, unless you're willing to save up for something better.

I'm a huge fan of the V-Amp Pro, though. When a V-Amp Pro that I got for 125 shipped, as well as a QSC RMX1450 and Avatar B212 sounds better than every head + cabinet combo I've tried, I'm inclined to think it's pretty okay.

I own one, it's never let me down.

Tone ain't the greatest, but it's hardly bad.

The "Shape" feature it has can help fix tone problems you may have. I don't use it much myself, but that's just me.

They sound very good with a guitar as well.
