I was told that ripping tracks from a CD onto your PC then Transfering them to an MP3 player was illegal. Is this true?

Depends on which country you're in, I don't think it's against the law in England to do.

if it is illegal to rip a cd onto your pc and uploading them to your mp3 player, then the majority of mp3 player owners are guilty.

as long as you dont give/share your music with other people (ie. transferring songs from your library to their player), then its fine i think.

Technically, it is Illegal, since you're transferring copyrighted material from one Medium to another, without permission. But, you're not gonna get arrested or fined for it, as long as it's for personl use, then your ok.

it was proposed in some countries that MP3 players and the like will be taxed due to the potential that people will use p2p to steal music and put it on mp3 players

i have no idea if this tax is in effect but the idea was(is) there

I have no idea, but if it is it shouldnt be because you obviously paid for the cd and the mp3 player so everything is paid for.

u can duplicate a cd as many times as you want, however you want, as long as you keep all the copies for yourself - what a selfish society we live in... its illegal to share!

I don't see why not, considering you do own the commercial CD.

A law being made that outlaws/levies MP3 players is plain stupid.
