Ok bass players.. I'm looking for a really cheap but nice sounding bass for recording purposes.
It doesn't need to be anything fancy or anything like that.

So what would you suggest?

(Put prices in dollars, pounds or danish kroners)

I'm not really a bass player, so explain to me the difference between a p bass and those that aren't? :p

Wouldn't touch Rondo with a stick
why is that?
several memebers on the forums have or had one... they've said its not bad?

the p refers to the type of pick up, a Precission pick up. they are a good type of bass.
a j bass, or jazz bass isnt just for playing jazz, so dont be thrown off by the name. jazzes have a more wider tone, but cannot pull of a p bass tone.

um, lets have some smarter people come in, because other than a few minutes at guitar center, i have no experiance with any other basses

I was one of those members, I had a 6 string brice. The quality was crudd, cheap looking finish, cheap electronics and not very good playability. The main reason I sold mine was because it was extremely of balance, it was a mission to play it while trying to keep it from toppling over... the head felt like a cinderblock

Richwood Jazz bass is your best buy, really.. Trust me!

I have one myself and love it to death (after I've changed the pickups though).

Pbass - one round meaty tone, it isn't that versitale but has a bit warmer and bassier tone then the Jbass. Volume/tone. Has a bit thicker neck and a smaller body.
Jbass - famous for the 'jazz bass growl', this bass is more versitale with two pickups. They tend to cut through a bit more then a Pbass, because they have a bit more treble. Has a thinner neck and a bit bigger body.

The richwood basses are bass for your bucks. You can easily upgrade the hardware on those, because the body and the neck are just GOOD. They saved on the electronics etc. But those are also still good. A lot of guitarplayers and bassists in my country (on another forum) really like them after playing them. :thumb:

No, I was thinking of searching for other companies similar to those, but I don't know how to begin.

I love my SX (rondomusic) fretless jazz copy. Obviously it's not going to be as good as a Fender, and it's as heavy as a brick, but it's great for $150. I will never go back to my fretted Ibanez again.

I can tell some people here don't like Brices. I think they are fantastic. Obviously they can never be better than the higher priced, name brands, but they are definitely good for their price, which is all I was asking for.

You can find Peavey Fury basses from the 80's for $150. They're great quality and sound very good, too. Foundation or Dynabasses are a bit more, maybe $200, but they're awesome for the price as well.
