hi everyone. well i recently started out with vocals and the problem i face is something like this....

when i play the original song and sing along with it, i sound all perfect and mindblowing. but just as i stop the song and start singing by myself or even with guitar pro playing along the tab of the song, i screw the whole thing terribly. even when i do it alongwith playing my guitar it sounds nowhere as good as my practises. the thing is i practise this song like 3-4 hours every day continuously with really short breaks (if any) and every time it sounds so well as long as i can here the original singer sing it. please help people. what should i do

You have trouble finding the notes? I ran into this problem early on. It happens to everyone during the early stages.

I don't think saying "practice" is going to help you in this situation, but try this:

Pick one song. The one you've been practicing. Try and hum the notes but not at the pace of the song. Listen through the melody, and pick out the first note. Find the note, wherever it is in your range, and hold it for a few seconds. Move onto to the next one...

I remember that this helped me familirize myself with the position my throat had to be in the succesfully hit the note - Every Time. I'd go through all the notes, and focus on the transitions from one to the next.

Soon enough, I'd be able to hear the first notes in my head, and sing the entire melody through perfectly just walking around the house without music.

Other thing is, try not to hold back - Warm Up, and use the power you have. Using a little extra air and push can help out when you're just learning a song. Nothing overstrenuous, but just make sure you get past your shy borderline, and then you can use your proper voice.

So, study the notes - Individually. Not as a whole. Then you can throw them together after concentrating for a split second on what needs to be done.

Whether this helps or not, I don't know. I'm suggesting another approach that was (for what it's worth) beneficial to finding notes. Like I said, everyone gets this early on. You've just got to push forward and be dedicated with your practice. On a side note, have a good read over the Singing 101 and Merkaba-1's Voice Helpline threads, as a general information, answer and excersise source.

Furthermore, any other questions you get...Keep them in the established singing threads. Thanks. :)

G'luck with it all :thumb:

Don't practice by singing along with the song. It just gives you a false feeling that your doing everything well because your hearing the vocalist on the CD singing and yourself and to you it sounds like your blending and singing everything perfectly. You take away the singer and you lose that guide (basically like taking away a saftey net). Then, as you know, you learn real quick that you cant sing it well without the help of the original CD.

So ALWAYS listen to the song over and over to make sure you know the melody, then get the power tab, guitar pro tab, karaoke disc, whatever you need to use or even if you really know the song do it a capella (with no music). If you find that your having trouble with singing the song still, go back and listen to the CD a verse at a time. Listen to it once, play that section again and this time sing along with it, then sing it a capella. Once you have it down a capella attempt to sing that part again with your choice of backing track.

It can be a pretty long process but its worth it.

because youre not singing, youre matching and tracing. LIke if you put paper over a wonderful drawing and trace it. Its obvious what you need to do. Sing without music, sing the song acapella until you can sing it well. This will make you have to rewire your singing, base it more on your throat and cord feeling, and not your ears. You dont sing with your ears and they can hinder you. And yes, read around a bit. Theres always at least two or three singing threads in here at any moment, and one is THE official singing thread. So I'm sure you havent read the voichelp hotline (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219911) , which would be my next suggestion. hehe.
