If you have any questions about photoshop, ask them here and I will answer them to the best of my ability. those other photoshoppers can join it too if they want.

Half expecting this thread to die very soon, but we'll see how it goes!

not nesecarily problems, just questions on how to do stuff when they cant figure it out...

i dunno, alot of people at school ask me to do stuff for them (i should start charging...) & people are frequently/ish asking on MX so i figured why not make somewhere where they can ask?

Whatever happened to that user that wanted to start an official thread about helping and sharing photoshop stuff?

There's this nice part-time job opportunity that I have....only problem is it requires PS skills and I don't know the first thing about PS.

How and where should I start my incredible PS journey? Any good online tutorials?

I didn't know there were any "MX Army Privates" left.

This is a good idea for a thread, I'm just learning how to use Photoshop myself.

I used to have Paint Shop Pro which was the bomb. But I lost it somehow. Now I have ArcSoft Studio or something... Not that I photoshop much.

go to www.good-tutorials.com - its got over 8000 tutorials or something, all for photoshop (i have'nt done half of them yet & dont really plan too )

i suggest starting with photo effects or retouch. most of the tuts in there are relatively easy and will teach you the basics+ of what the tools can do

also the random 5 on the homepage are worth looking at, some are more advanced than others, but it gives you variety.

after that, practice using the tools you have learnt to use without the tutorial a few times and then explore other areas you could be interested in (like web layouts or animation)

How would I put mutiple images on one canvas. To make a collage, so to speak. Also what are the main differences between Photoshop and Image Ready? And lastly, is the "Help Guide" that comes with Photoshop any good, or should I just skip it and go elsewhere? Such as the site you linked above. Thanks.

Thanks.Use the rulers and guides for the multiple images on one canvas if you want them to be set into certain positions.

The difference between Photoshop and Image Ready is pretty simple. You work on the actual graphics in Photoshop then open in Image Ready to do different things like simple animation or getting it optimized for the web with splices and sorts of things.

The Help Guide should help you with simple sorts of things you need help with, but you won't find any tutorials in there. My best suggestion would be to read a few tutorials but focus on doing your own thing, you don't want to get stuck following something you saw in a tutorial if you're getting serious in Photoshop.

I have a question. What's the cleanest and easiest way of cutting something out with perfection without it looking like crap?

EDIT: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/Mullet/TheClassic-LeRevolutionreg.jpg

It's my poster for my band(coming soon). It's not my best, but I like it.

Ok, ive figured it out, Use the pen tool, then select around the image you want cutting out, make sure its connected in a loop, then right click, and click on "make selection" then a dotted line should appear. On the top tool bar click, "select", then "inverse", all the bit you want deleting should be selected, then you press delete. :thumb:

That should work. Does for me, if its explains bad jsut tell us :)

If there's a big difference between colors in the background and colors in the specific object you want to cut, then I would say either use the magic wand or goto Filter > Extract.

If it's something that can be easily traced then use the magnetic lasso tool, but just remember this can be pretty tedious.

You can always clean up your slections or just make selections in general in quick mask mode.

And to make a nice looking final product always work with the edges of your selection.

i would use the "polyagonal lassoo" tool, clicking around the shape at regular intevervals to get it as perfect as possible, but make sure u dont click too fast, as double clicking will select from where you have selected & a straight line to the origin point... hard to explain, ill post a pic in a sec

edit: screenshots not working for some reason, will have to do it some other time...

got it - http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/4084/cutting9kh.jpg

I went around the head (not very carefully to save time, but you get the idea) & then clicked too fast, making it do the straight line down the middle of her face. Unfortunately, after doing this, you have to start again, so you have to be careful!

If you do that I think you hit ALT to undo the last click with the polygonal/magnetic lasso.

just tried that and it just made it the unselect polyagonal lasoo:upset:
but where theres a will theres a way... any other suggestions?

also, i have a question myself. i recently designed a promotional brochure for my dad's buisness, and we got it printed and everything is all pixelated. especially the text. the printing company asked for it in a .pdf file, which i did, but i just re-saved the .psd file as a pdf. i think this made the text in the .psd part of the picture in the .pdf, which could be the problem. how can i change this so it doesnt do that - i can use another program if need be

You should use very high resolutions for business cards, brochure's, etc...

yeah i did that (300dpi - is that high enough?) i think it had something to do with the text ending up being part of the image, instead of text...

Sometimes if you forget to do that the printing company will size it for you and that can make things a little off.

i made it a few millimeters bigger (in proportion though) & then made it fit the page when i converted it to .pdf - shrinking never decreases quality though... in my experiences it doesnt anyway! unless theres details like text & u shrink it TOO much... this is way too blurry for that though
