They're not exactly punk, but many punk fans would like their early stuff if they're open minded.
The Stranglers are a five piece band that started out in the UK in the 70's punk scene, and bloomed from that. You might've heard some of their songs somewhere, but not have known who they were.
Fans of Elvis Costello might like them.
Recommended Songs:

My Dad loves The Stranglers and Elvis Costello too. I haven't really listened to them in depth, I should have a listen to one of his albums sooner or later though.

I have their collection of 1977-82 and it's great. "Waltzin' Black" is in one of my old Nintendo games.

Yeah Something Better Change is one of their best songs. I'd say their best song is "Duchess" though, I love it.

They started off punkish, then went pop-rock. They never had the ideals anyway, only the sound.

Ah you lucky bas'tard. I saw Pat Thetic at the Leeds festival but there was a crowd between us and I was too stoned/drunk/other to try and get across the crowd. Did anyone see the Sufrajetts in The Underworld in Camden Town a few weeks ago? There was an awesome punk band on before them (in fact the whole line up was rockin') and I can't remember the band's name. However, if you ever see a band called God's Directors, go see them. They're 80's hard rock awesomeness, and their vocalist is fine as ****.
