I don't know about anyone else, but I think Sum 41's turn to metal in Chuck isn't good. Before they were one of, if not, the best punk band in the world, better than Green Day, i think. But now, they're not amazing at metal, and they were so much better with punk, cos they were so good at it, but not so good at metal.

Let's just hope new album returns more to the punk side of things.

Green Day and Sum 41 aren't punk. Sum 41's new album wasn't that great, but I admire them for trying, they must have lost a huge part of their fan base.

Aren't Sum 41 pop-punk? Therefore, shouldn't this belong in the pop-punk forum?

Aside from that, I'm curious as to the results of such a move. Sum 41 have always been a bit more instrumentally talented than their pop-punk compatriots, and their parodies of hair metal were always funny and cool (rather like hair metal itself) but I will concede that it's unlikely they're good at metal as a complete genre switch. They've always been better at "tinting" their pop-punk with metal guitar solos or the odd riff.

oh man you need to be educated on music in general

I agree, their guitar players are ok, they can play pretty well, miles better than most so called punk acts today. They can create some cool Maiden style harmonies, so I say, let them try a more challenging genre, I'll be interested to hear the results....

I was never really grabbed by Sum41, but yes this should really be in Pop-Punk. Never mind.

I've heard parts of Chuck and owch they'd taken it completely wrong. For their sake, they should revert to what they became popular for, which is fairly simplistic pop-punk with the odd crazy solo twinge.

Saying that, they do need to keep things new, which is hard for many modern bands.

i know man, i have much respect for their guitar playing.

sum 41 came out with "all killer no filler", ok for some, i thought it was a bit too simple for my taste but still, some catchy tracks, pain for pleasure is just so hilarious, it has to be good :D

does this look infected, i strangly enough, kinda liked and i listen to death metal at the most of times, the hell song is damn catchy, and they seem to get more melodic and put more thought into their songs with each release

so threadstarter, you need to learn to live with bands getting....better? :thumb:

because thats what they are doing, getting better and progressing as a band.

why should a band play the same style of music just because they became popular for it. just imagine if the clash did that.

Saying that, they do need to keep things new, which is hard for many modern bands.

why do thay need to keep things new thay have made three albums all sounding very different
