I'm currently working on my solo project and all i'm using is my bass/guitar, instrument cables, and 1/4-1/8 adapter so i can plug an instrument cable straight into my sound cards input line to record. I'm using soundforge for recording which i like and have no problem with, but i'm stuck using acidpro for mixing which i can use but i don't like it at all I was wondering if there's anything better out there for mixing and if theres any better programs out there for writing drums because I just don't like acidpro for that either.

for Drums:

the Fruity Loops Studio 5 demo, DRhuma, and Leaf Drums are all free software that might help you out.

for mixing:

Check out Kristal (http://www.kreatives.org/kristal) and Audacity (http://audacity.sf.net/)
