I recently read the book for it, and I must say it is VERY VERY good. Never has a book captured me and held me on to it, forcing me to turn page after page so excitedly.
I thought I might just give the book a bit of exposure since most people seem to know The Godfather as a movie, which is still excellent. But the book...mmmm...
I started reading that way back in the 6th grade (now a Sophomore in highschool) and for some reason I just stopped reading it. I think maybe I lost my page and just said to hell with it.

I read the book over the summer.
Better than the movie.

I read the book in preperation for watching the movie for the first time, I have to say I enjoyed the movie more. But the book is still excellent.

I saw the movie first, and I think in this case watching the movie first is better than reading the book first. You just remember watching the movie, and then when you read the book, you think, "Wow, that's exactly what happened", except you're reading it more in-depth. It's hard to explain, it like watching it in your mind, but with a slightly different perspective.
I also thought the book was better because it was more descriptive of all the characters (especially minor characters like Johnny Fontane and Lucy Mancini), and I think the flow was better than the movie. Some people think the movie moves too slow, but in the book you're constantly dragged in because it seems like more is going on.

Yeh, 'The Godfather' is a very entertaining read. I think it would have been better if Puzo stretched the storylines a bit more. If you're interested, definitely read Puzo's other books. They're just as thrilling as 'The Godfather'.
Oh, if you're unaware, another author has published the sequels to 'The Godfather'. I cannot recall the title of this novel or the author, but he was authorised by Puzo to do so.

I finished The Sicilian about a month ago, it was pretty good. Not as good as The Godfather, but it wasn't a bad read at all.
Yeah, I've heard about that too, but it's received mixed reviews. And I honestly think Puzo would be the only one to pull off anything to do with Godfather literature.

I'm aware of both The Sicillian and the sequel, but I don't really have any intentions to read them at the moment.
