hey folks, what do you think of today's UFC 56? coz for me it's fantastic to see those TUF's coaches (Franklin and Hughes) beats the hell of their rivals. im sure they can easily won thier fights...franklin is a beast!:thumb:
I'm a HUGE Matt Hughes fan - his fights with Trigg (esp #2), GSP and Newton have been wars in the past - with Hughes always comin out on top... I think GSP should get another shot - would be an awesome fight!
Franklin's good too - he should roll right over Quarry at UFC56...
-Favorite MMA fighters?

I am a big fan of Franklin; Hughes I respect but don't really love as much as Franklin, no clue why. I wanna see both of them dominate and retain their titles, should be good fights to.
As for my favorite fighter, it would have to be Shawn White, his BJJ is soo good (I think his name is White, he just fought Lidell not too long ago).

Hmmm I'm not sure who you're talking about - i know Vernon White (more of a kickboxer) fought Chuck back in 2004...
Nuthin wrong with liking Franklin... he's beaten some good fighters in his short time in the UFC

The guy Im talking about just recently fought Lidell and is also one of his only losses... I can't believe I forgot the name.

short time? i don't think so. ufc debut was i believe in ufc41. he's been undefeated in the ufc since.

you talking about Couture or Jeremy Horn? wait, SHAWN white? or Vernon White? as in Vernon "tiger" White?

Jeremy Horn... neither of the White's have particularly good BJJ skills.

Franklin would beat the **** out of Quarry- why somebody from the Ultimate Fighter is being put up against a champ is something to question.
Hughes/Riggs should be a pretty cool match. Have you seen Riggs? Man, the guy is like 22 years old and he's one something like 28 fights, 13 of which are KOs.
last saturday was some good fightin'. Except for the Diaz/Sanchez match. Diego is such a douche.

I hate that Rashad won last Saturday... I wanted him to lose more then anything.
Riggs? i don't know but, he's naturally like 200 lbs and dropping down like to 170 to take on Hughes is rather, risky. Riggs is good, but at times very arrogant. his cocky attitude and lack of respect for salavary's bjj skills is was got him in the triangle. its also weird that its his first match as a ww and already a title match, and also one without any tune up fights.
i'm olny hyped up about franklin and hughes. too bad AA's not fighting.

Yeah he is at a definite disadvantage... he should be expecting a big shock to his game when he goes to fight, lighter guys are usually a lot quicker then heavy games provide for... and he dosen't have the weight advantage to counter it as a hevay weight fighter would.

I'm quite glad that Rashad won, Brad in no way deserved it. He's just a big dope who can take punches. The guy has only been fighting for like 9 months and he probably just walked into UFC headquarters and was like "hi, I'm a 6-1/2 ft tall hillbilly freak who can't get knocked out with a baseball bat. let me on the show"

yeah, that was a quick fight. Didn't he get kicked in the face?

It still takes heart and courage to do what he did, and if he can't get knocked out, he can't get knocked out... thats his advantage. Its better thne a showboating S.O.B. who can't fight to save his life... he should have been eliminated the first fight, both of them should have been. If Dana had been smart he would have realized from that fight neither have what it takes to be in the Octagon.

good point, but you kinda missed my point. Because actually, Hughes is naturally at 190 and cuts weight a week or so before a fight. he's always been the bigger fighter in all his fights. i'm just kinda pissed they didn't give St. Pierre a shot at the title, and instead gave one to Riggs, who lost his last fight in the ufc, where St. Pierre won his last two. to elaborate more clearly, St. Pierre earned his #1 contender status by deafeating Miller and Trigg, but instead, ufc ignores that and give riggs a title shot. knowwhatimean?

Alright bad choice of words - by short time I meant by # of UFC fights, not actual MMA experience...
I think Riggs is just filller until the inevitable Hughes/GSP rematch... now that's a fight I'm looking forward to...
I love watchin AA fight... seems like there's no competition though! Buentello? Give me a break...

Yes, I understand that as well, and was confused too when i first heard it.
Also, Hughes will naturally be more used to fighting light after training heavy if he has done it before, still keeping Riggs at a disadvantage.

yeah, he did get kicked in the face, and was a little rocked, and then salavary whipped up the triagle. the perfect counter and set up.

yeah he showboated like hell in the first fight but he cleaned up his act soon after. For each fight Rashad was the underdog and he came out on top every time. He's a smart fighter and has some great technique. He also put a lot more time and effort into his career than someone like Brad, who really doesn't require a whole lot of skill. He's kinda like Homer Simpson in that boxing episode.

Unless Dana feeds him cans his whole UFC career, I don't expect Rashad to have a single win... it seems like he fights to not lose, instead of fighting to WIN! Those heavyweights on that show were a friggin joke... can you imagine one of those guys in the cage with a guy like Silvia or AA?

I also hated how Jorge lost... and you had Vanfloo(or something) being all like "I kicked a BJJ black belt's ***"... and Im all like... no, he kicked his own ***.

without a doubt, the guys from the show are nowhere near the talent of the more seasoned fighters in the UFC (with the exception of maybe Forrest Griffin).
The Joe/Luke fight was pretty sweet though.

Both Forrest and Bonner have good skills and were more then good enough for UFC.
Bonner works next to my school, I see him every morning.

that's sweet.
the Bonner/Griffin fight is probably the best recently in UFC. like they just kept going.
honestly though, a suggestion to all of you fans of mma, rent some pride. dude, serisously, you definetly need to see some of Fedor's or CroCop's fights. they don't **** around and lay n' pray like most ufc fighters. they finish every fight they go into. and its better for fighters to finish fights, that way there's no controversy over "who should've won this round" on decisions.

Forrest was a good find for the UFC b/c he's a decent fighter and VERY marketable (cough...xyience...cough). Joe/Luke was a lot better than I thought it would be...
But Diego and Diaz was awesome. Diego seems like the real deal and has shown that he's going to be in the UFC for a long time! His technical skills on the ground are awesome (unlike some lay and pray TUF fighters (koscheck - lol)) and he's always looking to finish the fight... personally i thought Diaz would win, but a well deserved win by Diego! Just hoping for Diego/Diaz II in the future!

Absolutely. PrideFC has unbelievable talent. Fedor, CroCop, Rua, Wandy, Rampage, Sak, Nog, I could just go on and on...
A good fight for Pride newbies to watch would be Fedor/Randleman at critical countdown last year - to survive that suplex is superhuman!

Pride is pretty awsome., I watch it alot for tips and stuff.
Xyence is like a brand of dietary supplements, like "Powerbar" brand.
Alot of times lay and pray is one of the best defense, as the fighter is looking for that one split second when there is a natural shift in the above guy's weight to get his knee in and regard.
hell yeah!! the Fedor/Randleman match was pretty sweet, but if you really want to see the true power of fedor, watch his fight with Gary Goodridge. Complete ownage. or CroCop's fight with Igor, or Even Alex Emilianenko. HLK!!!
lay n' pray, according to Stephen Quadros, who invented the term, is actually a way of stalling, and ducking your head into your opp's stomach and throwing one or two body shots, and really just laying there and praying for the judges to score the fight in his favor.

It can be used for that, but most often good fighters who seem to just be laying there are waiting for an opportunity. It is very hard to lift the opponent up from that possition, so you have to wait for him to do something.

I think you've got lay n' pray in the wrong context - it's when the fighter on top (already a little ahead in the scorecards) essentially stays on top without trying to improve position, throw strikes or attempt submissions. He does just enough to keep from being stood up (in Pride this tactic would be stood up and the fighter stalling given a yellow card - 10% deduction in their fight purse!!). Josh koscheck is notorious for this tactic and it makes for booooooooooring fights...
well, good fighters like who?

as is Sanchez, I'm pretty certain its his only move.

OOO... sorry I misunderstood... I thought the term was in reference to the guy on bottom.

yeah, but not getting busy enough is called lay n' pray. lay n' pray is bad, and boring for those that don't know.

It's cool... just a cheap stalling tactic...
Sanchez and the ground and pound? You're damn right - Randy's been known to hand out a few beatings that way too! Every fighter's worse nightmare... besides having to fight Fedor that is...
Another amazing Pride fight that you HAVE to see: Frye & Takayama at Pride 21... what a war...

It sucks not having a TV or Sky while I'm at uni, but I'll find a way to watch it for sure.

Why do you say that, Diego has looked very good every time I've seen him?
I didn't get to see TUF2, you say you don't think the heavyweight winner will be any good, what was the Welterweight winner like?

Pretty much the whole heavyweight pool was crap in the show... the welterweight winner (Joe) is pretty good, but I need to see some more fights with him before I can really rate him...

today's UFC 56 looks to be a great card. the franklin quarry match should be very interesting if they keep it standing. i can't see riggs being a problem for hughes in any way, shape or form, but that's the beauty of MMA - anything can happen...that we shall see...
